Question: When you say you blend 25/75, is that 25-container(say, 464) and 75-KY Tart wax?

That would be my guess. I'm throwing my two cents in since it looks like those that were in this thread haven't been on in a while. I've used KY wax and love it except for the dimples. I have found that a repair gets rid of them and they have smooth tops or I add some container wax to the blend but I add 4630 because I want more paraffin than soy. You can also get this wax from  Virginia Candle and Flaming. It seems a couple more places have it too. Just Scent I think is one.

  2. I like Vanilla Bean Noel from WSP and also Mrs. Claus Cookies from NG and Vanilla Bean Cookies from Daystar which is pretty much the same but maybe VBC and MCC has a slight more bakery note. They are almost an identical smell though. All are good.

  3. I have really liked what I got from Studio and Muddy both. I haven't put anything much in wax but they all smell good to me OOB. I haven't noticed any off smells from the FO from Studio but it could be that I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be smelling?

So far from Muddy I got Idgie Threadgood, Lemon Pound Cake, After 5, Night Watch, Peach Bellini, Bazooka, which I can't smell any bubblegum at all but could be me, and Castaway.  So far from Studio I really like Salted Caramel Apricot, and strawberry and peach gelato and their cucumber melon. Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head that I've put in wax.

  4. Texas Candle Supply has one of the best leather scents. It's comparable to the one from Lone Star. If you're looking for a good leather this is it. They ship fast too!

    Wax used: 4625/6006

Enablers !!! The lot of you ! 🤣 Which is exactly why I love this site, lol. I'm finally making that jump from hobby to business, & this company sounds great ! I thought that I was done with my FO ordering spree yesterday, then I saw this. I ordered mostly 2 oz samples, & two 8 oz. I ordered Lemon Sugar Cake, Strawberry Pound Cake ( those are the two 8 oz ) & then the 2 oz bottles of Blueberry Pecan Waffles, Vanilla Bean Nectarine, Pink Guava & Sugared Vanilla Wafflecones. I'll do cold sniff reviews when I get them & in wax as I make / test them. I like how the owner sends a nice email thanking you for your business after...such a nice, personal touch !

I think you'll love their oils and they are also wonderful to deal with!

I've only just received them so just going to start to make them all up so they will be to cure.. I just want to know how much fo to put into each of the 4oz jars

Like pcbrook said you can't fit very many in a 4 ounce jar. I use polypropylene bags and plastic containers to mix mine in. Make sure the plastic has the number 5 on it (although I'm not sure if this really matters since Fragrance oils come in bottles that don't have a 5) but just to be safe. I mix 8:2 ratio. You will need a scale to measure the weight of the beads and FO. Shake them every day and when they're dry they're ready to bake.

Are you curing your beads after they dry? I’ve read you need to continue to let them cure 7 days longer after absorbed

There are a lot of people that believe this helps but I've never found it to make a difference in my fresheners. I personally think once they're dry they're ready to bake.  But like you I've read this in different groups but just never felt like it made a difference. But who knows, we all get different results using the same things at times! What doesn't work for one might be the missing thing for someone else.

I just found out that New York Scents has the original Nature's Fragrances. I was told they get them from the same supplier. So now nobody has to go without Nature's fragrances.

That's good to know! I loved the FO's I bought from them.

Hey Belinda! Do you add even amounts of all 3 waxes?

I mix 4625/6006 in equal amounts for clamshells or 4625/4630. I've never mixed all 3 together though.

I had no idea that there was a pie crust FO. Ha!  I might have to look into that.

I think I'm going to get a sample of the scents you all suggested and try them in 464 and 6006 and see how it goes.

    Thanks!

ICS has some good apple scents too. I think one of her apple pie scents is the same as baked apple from RE and she offers great prices for 4 ounce bottles. I happen to love apple pie from CS but like bfroberts says, it's so subjective. Oh, and ICS has pie crust too in case you want to try to blend one!

Thanks for the info. I'm in Austin, TX. I have State Farm for us personally as well. But haven't checked for my business. Everything is torn up and on hold right now after the snow storm here as we had the busting pipes plumbing issues so many here had. Hands are tied right now to do any candle work/business. I'll look into a referral possibly as you did BusyBee when the time comes.

Please share what you find out. I'm in Cleveland, Texas, not too far from you! I am interested in what is offered in Texas too.

    Belinda,

    I plan on using both.

The closest supplier charges .59 cents per clamshell.  Is that reasonable so I don't have shipping cost?

The para/soy tart wax is great for both. It's a good wax to start with for sure for both.

sorry .29 cents (it wouldn't let me edit)

The best prices on clams that I've found is from Virginia Candle, Maple Street and Fillmore Container. I'm thinking the ones from Virginia were the best priced including shipping. They sell them by the case of 700 for $95.00, Fillmore's are .35 each or $112 for a case of 700. I've used clams from all three of them and they're the same exact clams.

I use Eucalyptus & Spearmint from Aztec.  Some customers love it.  It is nice and strong. But I have bought it from NG too in the past.  I can't remember if it was different though.

I just checked and Aztec's is cheaper than NG, so that makes it better in my book.  :) It does well sell.

I need to check my Aztec stash and see if I have it from them. I like the one from NG but it seems lighter than the one from Cajun but I don't really need anything from them so I hated to place an order for just that. Thanks!

    Hello!

I am a "newbie" to tart making. Have not started it yet, and I'm so excited and ready to start.

I have spent so many hours reading different threads and looking on websites.  My brain is now turned to a melting pot of blends of wax/fo and going to explode! 🤯   I am more confused than ever!

    HELP......Where do I start???
    What is the best?

    TARTS 101

    best wax?

    best fragrance oil suppliers?

Best ratio of fragrance amount per pound of wax?

    Best suppliers waxes/fo?

Any and all guidance is greatly appreciated!

    Thank you all so much!

Do you plan on using clamshells or pouring into molds? If clams then my favorite blend is 4625/6006 at 50/50. For shapes I like using 4625 alone or 4794 which would also mix well with 6006 for clams.

I mentioned in your other post that there's a para/soy tart wax that several suppliers sell that is easy to work with and comes in a pellet form and a great wax, especially for beginners but even seasoned tart makers use it. You can get it from Flaming, Virginia, Just Scent, Rustic Escentuals, Scented Expressions and I'm sure other places. It works well for clams and shapes.  Like someone else said pick the one that has the cheapest shipping to you.

Where is your location? I'm in Texas and can order from Flaming, Virginia, Lone Star and Aztec with about the same cost in shipping.

  16. I agree with Karen. These are questions that everyone has a different opinion about. Personally, I think Flaming is a great place to start too. I would recommend trying their tart wax, Problend 650. It's a para/soy blend. It holds a lot of fragrance and easy to work with. It'll work for shapes and clams. You can go from there as to whether you want to use an all paraffin or all soy wax as you learn more about the craft. You can get this same wax from several different suppliers. Virginia candle, Just Scent and Rustic Escentuals, and Scented Expressions are four that I know that carry the same exact wax for tarts and I'm sure there are more.

As far as who has the best fragrances, you're going to find that every supplier has great FO's and duds and those are subjective too. For instance, I think the best birthday cake comes from Keystone (Peak) or Fragrance Buddy, and I don't care for birthday cake from Aztec, ICS or Lone Star, but a lot of people love their birthday cake fragrance. You'll find a lot of great information on here that will help you through your journey. Welcome to your new addiction!

These are some of my favorite suppliers in no particular order:

    Aztec

    Flaming

    Texas Candle Supply

    Nature's Gardens

    Midwest Fragrance Company

    Candle Science

    Just Scent

    Fragrance Buddy

    Indiana Candle Supply

Scented Expressions and Pro Candle Supply are new to me and I've loved their fragrances too.

And there are many more but I can't think off the top of my head.
