  1. Hello All. Just wanted to throw this info out there if anyone is interested because I was getting confused with wick numbers and sizes and just expected them to all be sequential in size, but that's not always the case, for instance the Premier WI wicks. To help clarify some issues with wick sizes and assigned numbers, bottom line is this, pay attention to the "Yield" number and not the number in the wick name. See the links to the wick charts below for more details. I talked to one of the guys that does candle testing at Wicks Unlimited and that's what he told me to do and that's what they do for wick testing. I have been doing that with great results, it's pretty much spot on for knowing how to size up or down in a particular wick series. "Yield - Measured in yards of wick per pound in weight. The higher the yield, the smaller the wick and the flame and the resulting heat generated." Stabilo a.k.a CD wicks https://wicksunlimited.com/wicks/heinz-candle-wicks/heinz-stabilo-stabilo-kst-wicks/ LX wicks https://wicksunlimited.com/wicks/wedo-candle-wicks/wedo-lx-wicks/ Zinc wicks http://www.atkinsandpearce.com/candle-solutions/product-pages/zinc-core/ I can't find the link I was looking for about the Premier WI wicks. Wicks Unlimited and Atkins and Pearce have lots of great information on their websites. https://wicksunlimited.com/technical-resources/common-burn-issues/ http://www.atkinsandpearce.com/candle-solutions/ Another good wick chart per Wax Type http://www.candlesandsupplies.net/wick_selection_chart_by_wax.pdf Happy weekend to everyone.
  2. We all love you Suzanne/Trappeur, you will be greatly missed. May your candle burn forever and may you rest in peace sweet lady. 🕯️

  3. Holy cow @candlesinflorida, those are some huge candles. LOL
  4. Me too, me too. When I get back to making container candles, I want to make some with different layers of color and scents. I want to make some like these. https://library.rusticescentuals.com/layered-mason-jar-candle-tutorial/ https://www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/home-crafts/lavender-vanilla-geometric-candle/ https://candletech.com/candle-making/tutorials/candy-corn-candles/ https://candletech.com/candle-making/tutorials/layered-chocolate-peppermint-candle/ https://candletech.com/candle-making/tutorials/tilted-layers/ https://candletech.com/stars-stripes-candles/
  5. Awh, I see what you mean. That's a good point but I have never used them.
  6. I keep my cardboard boxes that have the dividers too, they're so handy. You and this post just gave me an idea, don't know why I never thought of it before. You can use those boxes with the dividers just like those restaurant racks. Why not? Next time I make candles, I need to try it. I don't normally have much trouble with wet spots though. I've been using either baking sheets or melamine serving trays padded/insulated with old towels so the candles aren't setting on a cold surface.
  7. Hello @sweetwomen. I don't have any answers for you but you could look at these sources, they have tutorials for stuff like that. http://www.candlesandsupplies.net/Classes-FREE-Projects https://www.theflamingcandle.com/the-classroom/ https://peakfragrances.com/pages/tutorials https://www.candlewic.com/education/education/page.aspx?id=1875 And also do a search on YouTube, I bet you'll find someone making the same thing you want to make.
  8. LOL, gosh I love Links! Using links and copy and paste are fabulous, can't do without them.
  9. Hi @candlesinflorida Seems like white or white frosted jars are hard to find. CAS in PA http://www.candlesandsupplies.net/Candle-Making/Straight-Sided-Tumblers Aztec in TN https://www.candlemaking.com/newglass/all-new-glass.html NY https://www.sks-bottle.com/340c/fin30047.html https://www.sks-bottle.com/340c/fin149f.html
  10. Yes, I'm in Pompano Beach, near Fort Lauderdale.
  11. Thanks for sharing @blacktieaffair. Yes, I've seen Timber Ridge Gifts and his videos, he has some good ones. Especially in some of his earlier videos, he can be funny and I don't know if he is even trying to be. I bought a few of his candles and wax melts and they were really nice and strong.
  12. Hi @candlesinflorida, I'm in FL too, aren't we lucky? LOL. Anyway, the odd smelling candles you are referring to, did you use liquid dye in them? Reason I ask is because I get a plastic/chemical sort of smell from my wax melts, whether I use soy or paraffin, and it's coming from the horrible stench of the liquid dye that I used in them. This includes wax melts I made in plastic clamshells and also loose wax melts. Needless to say, I'm not going to use that particular liquid dye anymore.
  13. That's interesting and something to consider. Looks like a good idea as long as it doesn't adversely effect jar adhesion. Looks like it would allow the candles to cool slowly and evenly and maybe put a piece of cardboard over the top too. IDK, just thinking out loud. LOL
  14. Hi Kat, doing great, thanks. We have been pretty warm down here in FL, not too bad yet but it's coming. LOL
  15. Hello @blacktieaffair and welcome back. I see you use to live in Gatlinburg, TN which is a beautiful mountain area. I'm from just outside of Knoxville and live in FL now. Hope you are enjoying AL.
  16. That's wild and really neat, never seen that before.
  17. Another great reason to keep detailed notes and I also take photos of stuff too.
  18. Hi @CristiLee, I can't speak on that fragrance oil but I had a similar issue with a coconut wax that I had used for a few years, not naming names. I had used that wax so many times and knew it inside and out. All of a sudden that wax changed, I saw the differences in my products right in front of my eyes and side by side. I know it changed, no one can tell me any different. The manufacturer assured me that the wax had not changed, they didn't know what I was talking about and acted like I was crazy. Like the old saying goes, don't stand there peeing on my leg and tell me it's raining. LOL. Bottom line, I'm not crazy , I don't believe what suppliers or manufactures tell me anymore, I go with what I know as fact and have seen first hand. Go with your gut and your recorded facts and don't let them drive you crazy. LOL.
  19. Hello and welcome @eucalypta from the Netherlands by the sea. Wow, you are a long way away from me but in a beautiful country that I hope to visit one day.
  20. LOL, I know what you mean. Seems like I'm always thinking, what if I do this or that or the other? Will it be better? So off I go testing. I'm finally starting to realize that once I find something I like and does perform well, then I need to just call it a day and go with it. Otherwise I'm like that little hamster running on it's fast wheel. LOL. My 2 cents regarding soy wax, I don't have a problem with the rough after burn tops, and I even expect it from a candle that claims to be all soy or at least a large % of soy. You certainly can tell a lot about a "soy" candle that way. Another way of looking at it, it's a "characteristic" of soy as opposed to a "flaw" because it doesn't have any negative effects on the rest of the candle, it's burn nor it's scent throw.
