That color change, from creamy to jelly like is gel. At least it looks like it in the picture. If you use Pam, wipe the excess out of the can. When I've used pringles cans, I just unroll the top part and find the "seam" and unroll like Pillsbury bisquets. The metal bottom will just come off when you unroll the cardboard.
You are kidding, right? Squirrel season? People eat those? I live in a wilderness area with plenty of deer, elk, moose, bear, fish, grouse, turkey and rabbit etc but have never, ever, ever heard of squirrel season.
Yup, google and read all the candle forums you have time for. Read everything, then read it again. All your questions have been asked repeatedly on all the boards, you will find it if you take the time.
Here is a great place to start. Bunny has posted this in the B&B faq section. http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21759 Once you decide on a preservative you think will work, go to a supplier site and read up on the recommended percentages.
My first soap was made in a jewelry box. It was 3 inches wide and 2 inches high. Just the right size. I bought them at the craft store, just unfinished jewelry boxes ready to decorate. Each one held 1lb and I made a 2lb batch. First Batch
I have an incredible shea lip balm recipe. It isn't grainy a bit...Until about 2 weeks later it gets grainy. I've subbed mango butter now so no more grainyness. I think I may go back to shea and just sell it as better because of the grains of shea. Like Henry Ford said, "If you can't fix it, feature it".
http://millersoap.com/ Read this site completely 3 or 4 times then go to Robin's CP soap turorial or the HP tutorial. Read that over and over and over until it is memorized. Then come back here and read as many of the soap threads as you can. If you have any questions that aren't answered in those places, ask away. Have fun, soaping and soaping information, formulation and testing is addictive. Hope you've paid off those credit cards. Edited to say, and the lye is easy to work with but you have to have total respect for it and learn everything you can about lye safely. Invest in goggles (not glasses) and plenty of gloves
When I first read that recipe at the Dish, I was convinced it was a joke when someone suggested using poopinate in it, I think it's on the first page of the thread. It is a belly shaking hilarious thread, if you are in the mood and have the time. When Jen first suggested that you research, my first thought was that you should have at least read the first couple of pages to see what other people thought of the recipe. For future reference, always read as much of the additional posts as you can to find out more info. Likes and dislikes about things. Hope the allergy thing goes away soon.
If you want to add to your order or you didn't get your order in yet, there is room. The fifth bag (6.6lbs) of silk is 1/2 reserved. Lets finish the rest of the bag so I can order it at the same time. Thanks Carrie
I just bought a house and I'll have a shop when I get moved in. It has no counters or anything in the shop right now, I have to start from scratch. I'm going to talk to the heating/cooling guys tomorrow. They are going to install AC in the house and I'm gonna see what it would cost to get the shop done too.
I use Lavender Fields from MMS for my purple. The last time it just turned gray and ugly. The next day when I unmolded the soap it was super dark purple.
Crock Pot? Carol, you may want to refresh your memory here. Yes, CPOP, Cold Process Oven Process, can be done with salt bars. The salt is added at trace, I believe. CarolGrant is right about the cutting while still hot. Wear gloves.
