  1. I have 2 molds from there. A slab and a log mold. The slab is hinged and the log isn't. I think next time I order from her, I'll get a hinged log mold. If a little bit of soap leaks out of the lining, its a bugger getting the soap out of the mold. Actually, I've been thinking about getting the hinged log mold and modifying the non hinged one. I want to saw into the sides and make cut lines. All I'd have to do is take the soap out of one log mold and set it in the modified mold. Then take a long sharp knife and cut down through the log. I'd have even bars everytime.
  2. Can you post your exact recipe. That is the best way for the veteran soapers to help with questions. I have a little leakage with my freezer paper, but not much.
  3. LOL, I have it bookmarked on my computer. When I'm not home, I google sooz calculator and it comes up. I didn't realize that it was Soap Calc either.
  4. I did a pillar in a medium brown with that fo. I did a cold pour but it didn't come out rustic, just has jump lines. I'm thinking that it would be really cool to try Donita's (I think) technique with the ice water to crack the wax. It might look like old worn leather. I like the smell and am planning on making some air fresheners with it when I get time.
  5. If I use my crock pot for soap, can I then use it for food?
  6. Lorrie, I made another batch of the bergamot soap. The only problem is I added about 1/4 tsp of color to the batch and it was too much. The suds are yellow. It is curing. Let me know if you want to try it and I'll send you a bar when it gets a little dryer. (I don't discount water so they have to cure forever)
  7. Thank you Purple Lilac and Robin. I knew there had to be a way to at least partially tame an FO with a bad attitude. I have an FO that I just love in soap, but it seized the last time I tried it and have since heard from the supplier that others have had problems also. I'll try your suggestions and let you know.
  8. I want to make a CP with an FO that I know seizes. It seized last time I tried it. What if anything can I do to lessen the seizure. Can I soap hotter, cooler, mix the FO with one of my oils first, etc? I won't discount water, but aside from that I don't know how to handle these fo's. Any suggestions on how to tame it, even a little?
  9. Crayons are made with pigments not dyes. They tend to clog the wick.
  10. I can't find an olive oil that says pomace. Is it just the light colored olive oil?
  11. I'm not sure which one your referring to, but all of the red votives were made with either just Peak red liquid dye or that and a drop of Peak purple. The blueberry was made with purple and a couple of drops of blue.
  12. Those smell sooooo good. I cut a little end off and tried it. It is heavenly.
  13. Ummm, Bruce, wanna swap some soap? I'm not as stinky at Tanya, LOL, but I could use some smell good too!
  14. I use 6228. I love this wax for votives. It holds color well, burns consistantly and very rarely do I have to wick up. Thank you all for your kind words.
  15. I love Pink Grapefruit FO. Wonderful color swirls.
  16. Here are some of my soaps curing. I haven't posted any pictures on the new board, so here goes. The brown round are scented Hershey's Chocolate and have cinnamon and clay. The pink is Jamaica me Crazy, purple is Lavender eo, light yellow is Tulip, the big white ones are a rebatch that is unscented. The shaving mug has an unscented shave soap in it. The ones with the newbie purple swirl are JS Lavender Vanilla. I have a few more on the next shelf down, but they are yucky so I won't show that picture.
  17. Here are the votives I was working on this weekend. I made 4 sets on Saturday night and 4 sets Sunday morning. I got in a hurry on Sunday so those have "nipples", oops. The scents from top to bottom are: Rose & Oak, Raspberry Vanilla, Love Spell, Tangerine Tulip, Citrus Linen H2O, County Kitchen, Blueberry Cheesecake and Chestnuts and Brown Sugar.
  18. I heat my molds before pouring. I use 6228. If I don't heat the molds, they get rustic looking with bubbles and jumplines. I heat them with the heat gun then pour. I've always made layered votives but I don't worry so much about the pour temps. I pour the additional layers when the first layer is still kinda warm. For the next layer, I hit the top of the votive with the heat gun in a circular motion until the top gets "wet". Not melted and running, just melted and shiny. (Does that make sense?) This helps the next layer to adhere and warms the mold. It's all expiramentation. What works for me may not work for you. HTH
  19. I am really loving the cold throw of the Rose and Oak and the Tangerine Tulip. I don't care for the Raspberry Vanilla cold, it smells like kids cough medicine. The Blueberry Cheesecake is nice too. I'm not much into food scents but the Chestnuts and Brown Sugar smells like pralines to me. Oh yeah, I like the love spell. I don't really care for the dupes, this isn't the same. I'll let you know when I test them in the next few days about hot throw.
  20. Here I go again. This time it's: Raspberry Vanilla Citrus Linen H2O Wild Rose and Oak Country Kitchen I'm kidless this week. My sister took him to Denver area for a week. I get to make all the candles I want.
  21. It doesn't say it isn't made with lye, it says: 1. She is telling the truth. It isn't a lye product that was made in someone's kitchen. 2. This soap was fomulated in a lab. It is true, however, it is very misleading. She is playing on the people's fears of lye to sell her product. Personally, I think it is unethical. I bet it's legal though.
  22. I just pulled out the old presto. Dang, I haven't made a candle in probably 2 months. I've been so focused on soap and stuff that I had all my candle stuff put away. I really had to dig to find alot of it. It took forever to find my votive wick pins. I got a bunch of samples from JS the other day and just couldn't wait to try them. I just made Love Spell, Chestnuts and Brown Sugar, Blueberry Cheesecake and Tangerine Tulip.

  24. Not that this newbie would have an answer for you, but someone might have a better idea if you post a picture. Aren't you supposed to leave it in the oven all night? It might be alright by morning, except for the melted saran wrap.
