ooh didn't realise it was that easy
thanks nat

Can I just ask some more advise then?
If I was doing a jar' date=' and in that jar it would contain a layer of wax then some strawberries on top, then some whipped icing, what part would you do in container soy and what part in pillar?
I was thinking container for the layer and whipped but the embeds in pillar?[/quote']
yep - only the embeds in pillar, but if you use a lot of embeds you may need to wick up as the pillar has a higher melt point than the container.
-
oh eck' date=' I've already got some pillar blend. Whats parasoy, do you little add paraffin to soy yourself?[/quote']
yep. try 50/50 paraffin and soy. Then if you're happy, try 70% soy 30% paraffin. just blend till you get the result you want.
-
you don't get marble or mottle from soy. in fact, soy pillars are a PITA. They crack, are hard to wick to get an even burn, and blow out quite a lot. You can make a good soy pillar with a lot of time and patience, but you might be better off with a parasoy blend first so you can see the differences.

I cp'd Peaks Key Lime the other day and does it ever smell wonderful. It behaved very nicely, and so far it has not turned a funky yellow color. CareBear, don't know what I did but it's still a pretty creamy color with a light green swirl hope it stays that way!! I want to try it in soy, anyone have any opinions on it. I hope since it's a citrus I don't get a fuel smell.
I have some that I use in EcoSoya. To be honest, it isn't the nicest lime I've ever smelt - it just smells a bit weird. You can smell the lime, but it also has a "burning plastic" sort of after-scent, as well as a chemical/rubber base note. It just doesn't seem "Fresh & Juicy" to me. I like my citrus scents to smell fresh and clean, and this smells more like washing up liquid!

is a heat gun one of those big green two handed 'burn the paint of your wood' jobbies?
cos apparently we have one of those in the deep dark recesses of the loft!
it's not necessarily big and green, but it is one that can be used to remove paint. I got mine on ebay and it came with a variety of scraper bits that you can clip on the end.
If you're using soy, they are invaluable, because when you pour soy containers, you can sometimes end up with realllly lumpy tops - so you use the heat gun (sometimes over and over again) to smooth the tops out.
-
That wax will work, but you will get a better throw with container wax.
would you still need the vybar to increase scent throw on paraffin container wax? Would mottling be reduced if you used container instead of pillar?
I'm just interested to know as I use soy but may venture into paraffin one day. I started out a few years ago with paraffin pillars but have never really used paraffin container on its own - i only use it in a para-soy blend.

On second thoughts - get me 30kg's and I will pick it up next time me and the girls go shopping at Mcartur Glen :highfive: If thats ok with you??? Won't be going for a few weeks yet though.
Anjie,x.
yeah, no problems. I can get container blend, but it's additive free and comes in slabs. I rarely use additives with it except dye and good quality FO. if you need some of this too, lemme know.
PS, your oils are being collected on tuesday, will be with you Wednesday.
I'm about 10 minutes from McArthur Glenn.

I haven't got a heat gun
I got soooooo narked with them keep falling over as I was trying to put the hearts against the side of the mould' date=' in the end I cheated. Got some cooking oil and lightly brushed them and slapped them on
flaming things still wouldn't all stay though.
Still, I'll know for next time.[/quote']
Got a hairdryer? Works just as good as a heat gun. I got my heat gun on ebay for £16, but I used to use my hair dryer.

Hi Nat. Do you sell paraffin wax as well then? I'll be after 20kg soon, can you do that? I'd rather give you the business rather than another big company. But don't worry if you can't supply that much.
Anjie,x.
Yes, I can get this much - I've got a large soy order coming in next week, so if you're gonna be wanting wax soon, I'll add 50 kgs of paraffin to my soy order and then i'll have enough for you when ever you need it. Lisa's right, if you take 25kgs, the price goes from £2.50 for 1 kg to £1.85 a kilo on 25kgs or above.
It does get cheaper than that, but for me to get that price I need to buy 100kgs - i don't use much paraffin so this is just too much for me to get unless I know it's being distributed elsewhere. If I start buying in larger quantities, then I may see if I can kick the supplier up the bum for a discount.
If you want wax, it's best to get 24kgs, because then the weight of the box and bag would take the parcel to 25kgs - which is the maximum weight I can send for £6. As soon as it goes over 25kgs, then that's another £6. Stoopid I know!
-
Hi Nat
I was after 5kg' date=' if you have that, that would be brill, thanks.
Let me know and I'll whizz another tenner over, the wonders of modern technology

I'll have a look. I've got soy wax coming in next week as I have to pour 500 candles for an order, so if I run out of paraffin doing your order, I'll get some more next week with the soy.

How much paraffin do you need Yvette? I can add it to your order and the postage won't increase - you can order up to 25kgs of stuff from me and the postage is never more than £6. I think the paraffin works out at £2.50 for 1kg, or £2.00 per kilo for 5kgs or more.
I'm in Nottingham' date=' big city, and the ONLY place for wax and thats only paraffin is hobbycraft. £4 for 1kg!!I've got my last lot from craftwise, £10.99 for 5kg bag and spend over £15 (maybe some stearin or vybar) and its free delivery and only took them 2 days!
My soy that Im trying I got from ebay, but I will be getting mine from Nat from now on.
I need to get some more paraffin, got bout 800g left, what am I going to do, even if I order today, won't be here until maybe next friday.
I know the frustration and despair you are feeling, especially when you realise just how much they have available in US, but slowly you find where to get this from and that from.
I'm trying to save £20 a time and buy what I need most then

Bloody hell they are sooooooo expensive!!!!!!!
Now I remember why I've never bothered with them.
Welcome to CT Lisa, I'm in Scotland too.....a horrid little village called Letham near Arbroath/Dundee.
And yes Nat's great for supplies.
Sally.
blimey, you're right - £4.30 for 15ml of FO? HOLY MOLY!!!
-
I know what you mean drives me nutty. I have 2 plastic ones. One I try to be really really careful with because pour too hot and the wax and scent attack the plastic (as my first mould shows). If I want to make a really dark pillar candle I need to use the new mould that hasn't been marked because you really see the marks from the inside of the mould on the dark ones.
I love the church candles but for love nor money can't find a metal one like it anywhere!
Lisa
Hiya Lisa
I'm not a supplier, I run my own candle business but I have SO much stock that I offer it to other candlemakers when I can. I will be setting up a supply side to my business, but it's slow going as I have to pour orders all day. If you want any particular oils, let me know - i have 300 different scents for you to choose from!

Hi Lisa, and welcome to the forum. Can I be jelous with you - living in Iceland everything has to be imported into this country. I pay 24.5% VAT on my goods and then import duties!! I think Natasha (Nattycat) has a great range of oils, even though I have not ordered from her, I am so tempted to see how much it would cost me postage wise. I think there are a few sources for goods in the UK and it is worth contacting them. Good luck.
I'm just enquiring with my courier about setting up reduced prices on shipping to Europe and the Far East, as I have a wholesale account in Sweden and one in Japan - maybe I'll get lucky and get some really good prices on the shipping to make it a lot easier for people such as yourselves.

i second this natalie has been a great help to me and my constant whats and ifs and hows and what i done wrong nows
Natasha even.

herpes?
pmsl - lol sorry, I couldn't help it, you did ask.
-
can you get this in the UK? I love this effect
nope.
-
I also supply fragrance, which I have manufactured for me in the UK specifically for soy candles.

I've got some spare FO samples going for free if you want them - you just need to pay postage. I have bagged up 3 bags of mixed FO's - there's about 30 bottles in each bag. Anjie and Wick have taken the first two - do you want the third?

melts made from container are a bugger to get out of the mould too. pop them in the fridge for a while if they get stuck.
Natasha
-
yep. the longer you wait, the stronger the FO develops. You can't truly test a candle for throw until the scent has properly cured.
-
is it soy or paraffin. Where did you get your oil?
Depending on the wax you used and the FO you used - you may need to wait a while. It really does come down to the FO though. The cheaper the quality, the longer you have to wait. If I'm right in guessing where you got your oils, you're going to need to wait more than a week for the scent to develop.

nice pillars and tins. Looks like a bum in the pink tin though!
BTW...you might want to check out the classifieds - i'm offering some free stuff to UK newbies....
-
yea, the talc look is mostly on dyed pillars. if you hate it, put a stocking or cut of leg from a pair of tights over your hand and buff it off. not too hard tho cos it'll scratch. Try reducing the amount of dye you use - you won't get the talc on white ones!

very pretty...but aren't the jars a bit over-filled? when the embeds that are sticking out of the wax start to melt, it'll start pouring over the sides......perhaps pouring the wax to about 1 inch from the top would be a little safer.
