  1. How horrible!!!! I have to agree:

He sounds too shady to me. Sorry you are having to deal with this!!

I thought she said it wasn't the owner but the people working for him that stole the $9000.00. I wouldn't blame the owner for what employees DID!

It sounds like a sizable account with large order on a monthly basis. That's nothing to shake a stick it if making candles in your living.

Our econemy is mess right now. No way I'd pull a wholesale account right before the holidays. THAT'S THE BIGGEST TIME OF YEAR FOR CANDLES!

But I also wouldn't take any checks in the future from this business.

  2. I noticed on another site that someone mentioned, when making Lip balms, she used a canning jar and would set on a mug warmer for the repours. If you are concerned about continuely reheating, maybe a mug with warm water on the mug warmer would be a better idea.

Not that I know anything but I thought it was a great idea.

  3. My main heat source is wood. I do have a large house, but have had no issues with the wood heat bothering my CP soap. My soap rack is probably 6 feet from one of our wood burners.

    HTH,

    Glo

That's very good to know. My cure racks will be across the room from the wood burner in the basement.

  4. As many on here know, I'm researching making CP soap but an interesting question just popped into my head so I better ask before making the huge investment opny to discover that due to my heating methods, CP soap will not work.

I heat my log cabin with wood heat, which all I use. I have a wood buner on the first floor of my cabin and one in the basement. My cabin is very small and there is no place to place soap for cuing where the heat doesn't reach. This is an exteamly DRY heat so how would that effect curing or making CP soap?

I will add that I DO NOT always fire the wood burner in my basement and it very cold down there but I do fire it when it gets extreamely cold.

There is not closet space in this cabin either except for a small area under the staircase to the loft.

Will dry, hot heat like this mean my bars will crack?I'VE MADE NO CP SOAP YET but I would like to. The investment in the proper equipment will be just that and I don't want to waste the money if I can't cure the bars properly or have inferior product to sell.

    Thanks for advice,

  5. One of the very first scents I ever poured in Soy wax was and still is my signature scent called Northern Lights. I was pouring candles and had picked up a scent that I thought smelled great but too close to Apple Pie for me and I already had Apple Pie scent so I created Northern Lights by taking this scent and adding this, that and the other. Northern Lights was born and is still carried today. Of couse I've taken a number of regular scent and tweaked them slightly to make them my own as well.

But two months ago, by the Grace Of God, I was lead to create another signature scent called, Georgia. I never know when the signature scents are going to happen. But they only happen once in awhile. Still, they do make a heck of an impresson on my customers!

Of course I also carry an array of regular scents as well but I often change the names to keep the compitition at bay.

  7. I'm bumping this thread because it made me laugh so hard and because some regulars never posted on it like Grumpy Girl~ who make the most beautiful soap I've ever seen as well as Brenda and several others!

I make some MP soap just for myself and a few friends but I've spent hours dreaming of making lotions and CP soap as well as lip balms and body wash and body spray. vistited dozens of website for all kinds of B&B stuff but righ now i'm have a fixation with bottles for liquid soap as well as body wash! And I don't even have the bases yet to play with.

It all takes time and capital and I'm just waiting for the right time to invest in this stuff. Until then it's just research, research, research.:P

But I think I've caught the bug! LOL!

  8. Sorry your show was a dud but at least you went home with some money. I did a car show two weeks ago and it was a dud too. Made my booth fee and that was it!

As far as Party Lite and such, I don't care for it either but they will somehow always be at the shows. I don't mind because I've gone up against all of the big names and come out ahead every time! They generally pack up early and go home because they won't make money when I'm there. I make a better product and I can prove it. My prices are reasonable and I stay professonal no matter what. Last year they set me up next to golden Canyon Rep. The show started at 9.00am and she packed up and went home at noon! She complained to the woman running the show that she wouldn't be back! .

No, it's not fair to those who have a handmade product but the only shows that don't allow are the juried shows. So maybe look for juried shows only

  9. Still trying to get all the stock I sold at the show caught up for the next two shows I have in two weeks! I have to pour:

    Georgia

    Home for the Holidays

    Sage Lemongrass

    Cool Citrus Basil

    Clean

    Cherry Bomb

    Balsam Fir

    Carnival

    Vermont

    Lavender

    White tea and Ginger

    Brownie

    Thunder River

    Strawberry Kiwi

    Pumpkin Pie

    Cranberry Cinnamon!

I'd say that's enough to keep me out of trouble for this week.

  10. Consignment accounts are the way a lot of stores go but they are not geared to help the chandler. You've already invested your own money into making the candles. Now the stores expect to to hand over your candles and to wait until they sell them and take their cut before paying you. If you are absolutely new to it fine, it's a way to get out there and get you name known.

People often fear contracts that have boundries. what happens of candles get broken or stolen?I'm sure your candles are very nice and you should know he brought up the customer to try and get you to lower your price. chances are good no customer said they wouldn't buy a candle for $12.00.

Stick to your guns but try to go wholesale and forget consignment.

  11. What state are you shipping to? Frosting happen when the temps start to cool for the season. Don't take them back as there really IS NOTHING wrong with the candles and the way they burn.

Sounds like the owners is upset, not the customers and if she pulled them then it's her own fault they are not selling.

The thing you need to learn to do is PLAY UP the frosting and how unique it is to strictly soy candles.

My own customers are upset if there IS NOT frosting on my candles. Why? Because I played it up as something fun and interesting about my pure soy candles. They LOVE IT!

As this person will not be reordering, tell her do as she likes and write her off as experience and move to the next wholesale customer.
