  1. What day did you order? Did it come USPS? I ordered Monday and they told me first thing Tuesday morning that it had already shipped, but here it is one state away and 3 days later... (my mail already came today) -Kristi
  2. children's room is a powdery floral.... NOT a kid scent! I ditto Doodle Bug. -Kristi
  3. I have had problems with talking to them via email. You may want to call Lena during your lunch break. If you have a problem, she will be the ONLY one who can help you. Their email response in the past has been pretty slow. Do you have the 1-800 number? I can pm you with it if you want. -Kristi
  4. Mine is a creamy latte color. But this is one of my light throwers from NG, so I ended up taking my leftover Eggnog and calling it chai latte. It does smell more like real chai than the chai did, and I like the name better than eggnog for the rest of the winter. Glad to hear that other places have done chai better! -Kristi
  5. Try asking on the soy board... The answer depends on the brand of wax and the look you're going for. Some pour slushy, some pour hot. -Kristi
  6. Something swampy would work, but if it's just cedar and not a patchouli blend, that might be misleading. My house is cypress... quiet cabin? Although mine is always LOUD!!! lol -Kristi
  7. Right now, CandleScience is having a $.99 sale on one ounce bottles of fragrance oil. http://www.candlescience.com My bet is your biggest issue is your fragrances. -Kristi
  8. I placed an order there yesterday and several oils showed out of stock. By last night, the oils were back in but they shipped so fast that it was too late. If you notice that an oil you want is out of stock, put that you would like to add it if possible in the comment line. That way if they're running out and restocking all day with this crazy sale you can still get all your oils! I guess Cranberry Marmalade, Nectarine and Black Currant and Rain Water weren't meant to be... sigh... Now I know! (btw, I emailed them at 3 this morning and had a response a few minutes ago! -Kristi
  9. Hey, FHG, I just realized that you've been making candles using the NG's tutorials. The two problems I've had with that was them having you add FO at the pouring temp (not at 180 and stir stir stir as you should) and not securing wicks. PLEASE tell me that you've been securing wicks? I have a batch from when I first started making that didn't have secured wicks and as I've burned them, about half slide down to one side of the jar when the melt pool gets deep. Now, these AREN'T candles I've sold, but I have to reposition the wicks with a butter knife to burn to the bottom without the wick getting alongside the glass, and frankly *I'm* not comfortable burning them once there are about 3 inches or so left in the bottom. I know you are doing this your way, with the selling stuff and all, but you did come here for advice. If you haven't secured your wicks with silicone adhesive, glue dots, or high temp hot glue, PULL YOUR CANDLES and fix them. I still can't believe NG's tutorial specifically says you don't need to. I don't know WHAT they are thinking. SO not safe, and I've got some candles to prove it. Please say you already are glueing them down?!?! -Kristi
  10. This is still clear as mud... anyone care to dumb it down? So far it *Sounds* like unless I pay a boatload when I cancel a policy to add the extended reporting period, I could possibly be screwed in the future? I'm trying to find somewhere that says that for the occurrence policy there is no time limit to future suits? Even if the policy is no longer in place... is that true? Does anyone know what the Ohio policy is? or the Colonial one through IBN? I can't seem to find that info anywhere despite looking... I hate dealing with insurance issues, but I think I'd hate being sued more... -Kristi
  11. Ginger Bergamot Yuzu Pineapple Ginger Caribbean Sugar Cookie (yellow with the slightest touch of brown) Honeysuckle -Kristi
  12. I don't know what to tell you about the containers, but you should check with her on how full she will want them. If there are fans or the reception is outside, she will not want them more than 2/3 full to cut down on flickering and also to give the room a nice glow. The flame will illuminate the glass better if it's not full. Yep, I'd do the skewer and wick poking testing... -Kristi
  13. One lb of melted soy is about 20 fluid ounces, so you will have a bit left over (which you can use as melts, dip pinecones or washclothes in, etc.). With one pound, I'm able to do a 16 oz container AND a 4 oz container (by volume). One thermometer- for the wax, not the water. When you hear the water start boiling, the wax will be almost melted- from there it takes a few more minutes to get it hot enough for FO. A candy thermometer will work, but don't use it to stir with, however tempting that might be! -Kristi
  14. Odd, I have no problems with NG's Cinnamon Red Hots and I don't heat above 180 degrees. -Kristi
  15. But my question is what happens if someone buys a candle and uses it ONLY for Christmastime and they keep it in a back cabinet, but YEARS after they buy it, it causes an incident when the policy is no longer in force. Say that I have stopped making candles at that point. Does that mean that there is no coverage for a suit resulting from an incident that occurs years after I have sold the product? See, the loss would not occur until the policy had expired, but the policy was in place at the time of the sale. Since a candle has no expiration date, do I have to have insurance the rest of my life even if I'm no longer selling candles.... see what I'm sayin'? The statute of limitations isn't applied to the sale but the incident, correct? What if I want a policy that will protect me from lawsuits 10 years from now on goods sold this year when I HAVE insurance, even if I DON'T have insurance in 10 years when an incident COULD occur. Ya know? This DOES have DH concerned.... -Kristi
  16. So if you didn't have the extended reporting endorsement added during the policy term, you wouldn't be covered if a candle caused an accident after coverage was terminated? For both the occurance and the claims made types, it looks like if something happened years after coverage ended, there would be no protection from insurance unless the "tail" or endorsement for extended reporting is added on to the policy... right? My thinking is that no coverage would be sound enough unless it covered claims that could be made against you even after the coverage was terminated... I mean, I could naively think that I'm protected but cancel after I stop selling, but then have it come back to bite me years in the future, right? Does anyone know if the IBN policy has the ability to add that rider? Does anyone have it? -Kristi
  17. My husband and I were discussing business stuff yesterday and the topic of the woman who sells on ebay being sued came up. While we were on the subject, he asked an interesting question I could NOT find the answer for- if I sell a candle and have insurance when I sell it, but 2 years later for whatever reason, I'm no longer in business and have no insurance and company is dissolved, what happens if that same candle causes a fire (through customer error). If I no longer have insurance am I liable? If you can't hide behind an LLC and the only safety net is insurance, but the product doesn't cause a problem til years down the road, then what? I'd LOVE to hear your answers on this!!! -Kristi
  18. Ack!!! There went my excuse.... -Kristi oooh- they take Discover now too.... that was my main holdout before. Now all bets are OFF! lol...
  19. NG's tutorials also don't have you use adhesive on wicks... they just say to float them down and set them into the bottom of the candle while it's cooling... now I have several candles left (my own personal use) that don't have the wicks fixed and they migrate to the side during the last part of the burn.... I have to stick a butter knife in and slide the wick back when I'm burning one of those... And yes, the tutorial STILL says you should just float the wick down later... -Kristi
  20. Did you burn to the bottom with the 73s? Alot of hangup will melt off with the bottom third of those pots since they are slightly smaller at the bottom, the heat rises up the sides and melts off. -Kristi
  21. Thanks for reminding me why I can't stand C&S..... like the stinging from my last order fiasco didn't still remind me.... No thank you! -Kristi
  22. I had a terribly overheated rebatch I had to do with a mostly olive oil (but some lard, coconut and castor) and Black Cherry FO and after I heated it, it stayed soft for a long time... I used a gingerbread man cookie cutter and cut it into little man shapes and then shaped the scraps into soap balls. They LOVE them. My 15 mo old holds the little man the whole time during bathtime (does a number on the soap being in the water the entire time though lol). I had added a teabag to the soap the first time around (pre-rebatch lol) so it was pretty dark soap and the cookie cutter idea just came to me. I don't think I could recreate that batch if I had to (which is a shame cause the soap is awesome and does great washing their hair too). Of course that batch took FOREVER to cure... I'm about to make some cocoa butter and shea soap (I've been saying that for 2 weeks now lol)... was planning on using it during the cold weather, but it'll be warm before it's done... oh well... I have two who get really dry skin and I've been putting off making it cause I've been debating on the FO if any lol...... -Kristi
  23. I've used about 75 or more of their oils and I didn't think that Chai Tea or Yuzu had a good throw. That's about it though! Key Lime Pie smells a bit off to me, but other than those, I've had great luck. Strongest? Black Cherry Bomb, Butter Brickle, Blueberry Muffin, Apple Cinnamon, Spiced Cranberry, Lovespell... those are off the top of my head. -Kristi
  24. I also think lavendar would be a good one. BUT for me, my all time relaxing comfort scent is Peak's Mandarin Plum! Something about that one just TOTALLY destresses me. Last year I was outside spraying weeds and I went into the house and the whole house smelled like it.... because my girls had used a soft container candle as HAIR GEL!!! The amazing part is that I didn't freak... like I said, relaxing scent lol... That's also the scent I used for labor with my last baby. -Kristi
  25. FedEx will only go to my basement door (the first door they come to). Then they throw it out of the truck and land it right in front of that door and drive away (no knock or doorbell- they don't leave the truck!!!). DHL (when they were Airborne Express and before they used the PO for deliveries) delivered to my mailbox and called it the door. Had stuff stolen this way. UPS drives to the top of the driveway and knocks on the kitchen door, right where I WANT stuff delivered. Since they know I'm home (or maybe just because) they are nice with my boxes. USPS drives up my driveway, leaning on the horn (lol). That way she hopes that I'll come out to her by the time she gets out packages. If I don't answer the door, she knocks and leaves the package at the backdoor, right where UPS does. Before she realized that I'm home all the time, she used to leave the notice for signature required deliveries in my mailbox and expected me to sign it and then wait for her to deliver the next day- assuming that I wasn't home. That ended REAL fast. The horn thing is annoying on Saturday though as we're less than a mile down a fairly uninhabited road from the post office... takes her 20 minutes to get here and she starts at 8 am or so.... EARLY delivery! -Kristi
