  1. If you want to add sunflower, then look at the second recipe I listed and sub the soybean oil for sunflower oil. :cheesy2:
  2. Crisco and Lard pretty much act the same way in soap. I am not sure why you would use both, I would drop one of them. You only have 20% soft oils, which can make your bar a little drying, you should up your olive oil for sure. Crisco is pretty much hydronated soybean oil, so if you are wanting soybean oil, I would go for the liquid oil instead of the hard type, you would get more benifits out of the liquid type. castor 5% coconut 25% Lard 30% olive 35% mango butter 5% hardness 40 cleansing 17 condition 55 bubbly la 22 cream la 28 iodine 55 ins 156 If you wanted to add liquid soybean oil castor 5% coconut 25% Lard 30% olive 25% mango butter 5% soybean oil 10% hardness 40 cleansing 17 condition 55 bubbly la 22 cream la 28 iodine 60 ins 152
  3. very very lovely, great job on the photography as well
  4. ditto that, I just received my sample today and all I smell is sweet oranges.
  5. That’s why I am curious. Because my bar soap tested 7, so if bar soaps are suppose to be high and not neutral, then why did I get a read of 7 PH?
  6. I believe trans-fats are going to have the least amount of nutrients in them, which wont give you as nurishing bar of a bar as say olive oil will. Kind of the same with saturated fats, but trans-fats have even less nutrients. Using crisco or other hydrogenated oils get robbed of their nutrients during the hyrogenating process. Maybe thats what she was worried about.
  7. With all my testing in 3" tumblers, I have decided to give up on these jars, I think the jar is just not designed to get hot enough to reach a full melt pool until its almost half way down. I think the openness of the top just allows it to stay cool. I never get a good scent throw either until the candle is half way burned down.
  8. Ginger mixes great with Lemon types, also Raspberry. Probably most berry types too.
  9. Anyone else use these or know how accurate they are? I just received some today and tested them on a new soap recipe I had curring for about 2 weeks now. I got a reading of a PH level of 7 and got pretty excited!! I lathered up the bar and held the strip on the lather area of the bar for about 10 seconds, then held the strip up to the color chart. Just wondering if anyone else has used these and has had good luck.
  10. I have a sample of this arriving tomorrow from Millcreek. I cant wait.
  11. oh i was so going to get that salty mariner but decided to drop it at the last min. glad to hear you like it, next time for sure.
  12. I just recieved my first order from this company and I must say, so far their service has been great for me. Fast shipping, great pricing and excellent packaging (glass bottles with shrink wrap on top, placed in bag with twist tie, then wrapped in bubble wrap and double boxed). I also love the way they include a pic of a finished bar to show you discoloration for most of their scents. I ordered the following new FOs to try for soaping: Citrus Rosemary type ~ OOB smells herbal Citrus Loves Flowers ~ OOB smells mostly citrus Ginger Milk ~ OOB smells mostly ginger Citrus Breeze ~ OOB OMG smells totally fresh Sweet Sage Bush ~ OOB YUM YUM YUM Tomato Leaf ~ OOB smells so beautiful Soft Green Awakening ~ OOB WOW!! smells so beautiful Guava ~ OOB YUM YUM YUM smells like candy Apricot Fressia ~ OOB smells soft and fresh, not too sweet Fig ~ OOB smells too sweet not what i expected
  13. that recipe looks yummy. a couple things I would change would be to lower the castor to 5% and raise the olive oil to 30%. Also raise the coconut to 20% and lower the palm kernel to 10%. i think it would be a bit more stable by doing that.
  14. so true. thats why i decided to post it since so many new soap makers are usually looking for an easy recipe they can make with items from a nearby store. Of course once they get bit by the bug, they will surely want to tweek it more for their own skins needs.
  15. That looks like a nice recipe too. It may not be as hard with twice as much soybean oil in it though. The Iodine number is what measures the true hardness of the bar. Your Iodine level is 68, the higher the number the softer the bar. Using Palm Oil instead of Lard will also lower the iodine level just a tad as well. But I dont think its available at Walmart.
  16. very very nice. love the swirls
  17. I just attended a friends baby shower a couple weeks ago. I made a large diaper cake and 4 small ones and placed them on tables through my friends home. We played a game with diapers and melted chocolate bars. lolol It’s called guess what kind of chocolate bar is in each diaper. You place 10 different types of chocolate bar (recess butter cups, babyruth, snickers, mounds, butterfinger etc.) inside 10 different baby diapers and melt them for a bit in the microwave. Then pass the diapers around and let people smell them through the sides of the diaper and guess what kind it is. Another game we did was to buy a pair of large woman’s bloomers and wrap them in 12-15 single layers of tissue paper. We play a game like musical chairs, where as the music plays, the bundle gets passes around and when the music stops, that person has to unwrap a layer of the tissue paper. The last person to unwrap the last layer has to wear the bloomers on the outside of their pants for the rest of the party. Another game we played was to buy a bunch of large baby safety pins and give each person one to wear on their shirt. Throughout the party who ever catches a person crossing their legs (sitting or standing) gets to take that persons safety pin(s). At the end of the party, the person with the most pins wins a prize. Another game we played was family feud, and just asked a bunch of questions like what do moms miss doing the most before they had children, what are the top Disney movies, etc.
  18. Even though this is an easy recipe, I think the soap quality numbers look great and it bubbles wonderfully!!! Coconut Oil 25% Lard (can sub with Palm Oil) 25% Olive Oil 40% Soybean Oil 10% Run this recipe through SoapCalc.com to calculate lye and water amounts. Soap Qualities: Hardness 38 Cleansing 17 Condition 57 Bubbly lath. 17 Creamy lath. 21 Iodine 63 INS 149
  19. Band it with a strip of kraft paper instead of wax paper.
  20. she must be a soaper herself. I read in one of my soaping books about avoiding oils that have trans fat. Something to do with the hardness of the finished bar. I need to go back and read it again. I'll let you know exactly what I find tonight.
  21. They all look sooo lovely. I have some A Garden Eastward scent coming soon. So I will be posting lots of pics too . YIPPEE
  22. I am right there with you on those two FOs, they are amazing and they hold extremely well also. YUM YUM
  23. i get this sometimes too and i dont use sugar or salt. i use castor, but dont know if that matters. I think what it is, is sweat beads or something.
