  1. Like Nancy and 2of7 said, not enough DPG. With the DPG/FO ratio you are using, you will get the smoking and not a very clean scent. Remember, the DPG acts like a wetting agent and helps the fragrance penetrate and spread through the stick or cone.

I also do a 50%/50% ratio. Some scents are a bit too strong at that combo, so I increase the DPG for those. Also, if the incense is not completely dry, you will get some smoking as well. Sometimes I get impatient after soaking to let them thoroughly dry so I experience what you are talking about. Not the smartest thing in the world but testing sometimes reminds me of grass growing. Hurry up and cure already!! :laugh2:

  2. If we can come up with a list of suggestions, I'll be happy to pass them on to Ian. He seemed genuinely interested in our feedback. 'Course he is a Sales guy and that's his job and he might not really care at all... :cheesy2:

Being an Army brat we moved around alot from base to base and I do remember the hobby shops they always seemed to have. My Mom used to do ceramics, was a big hobby of hers. She is very artistic and could paint things very well. Unfortunately, that trait didn't make it down to me. My Dad always grumbled about the ceramic stuff we had to pack up and haul everywhere.

Have no idea how expensive it would be to do that anymore. On base it wasn't that bad because the hobby shop had the molds and the kiln. We just had to pay for the slip and paints. Don't remember if they charged a fee to fire.

So, question for everybody. What type/style of warmers would you like to see OBI carry?

  3. I just spoke with Ian from OBI. I recently registered as a wholesale company so he was doing a Welcome call.

Anyway, during our conversation I mentioned that there were several warmers a collegue had seen that had generated a lot of interest on our forum. He was very interested and I'm going to send him the pics. He mentioned they have a shipment that will be in mid-February that may have some of the new designs they are expecting. If not then, the May/June shipment will be all the new products they have ordered.

Ian saw samples of some of them a couple of months ago. He does remember there is one with a bird, one with flowers and one that has a wine bottle. He also said they are getting quite a few of the shorter warmers where the top and bottom coordinate as far as the design, not all one color. He saw those a couple of weeks ago.

Ian seemed very approchable and welcomes any suggestions. Just to let you know...

  4. There are a lot of very nice, knowledgeable people on this board, don't be afraid to ask questions. But like Linda said, start with the search feature. Chances are if you have a question, someone else has had the same one at some point. Many of your questions can probably be answered by doing so.

Now I do agree, the search function on the forum may not be the best. If that is not giving you good results, do a google site search. I find I get a much better result set. The syntax is:

    <search criteria> site:craftserver.com/forums

    So, it would look like:

    wax recommendations site:craftserver.com/forums

If you don't remember the above, click on the Advanced Search from Google. It provides prompts for the search criteria and the site info is at the bottom.

    Hope that helps!

  5. Really haven't picked up any citrus scents from NG other than Bite Me. But, have only used that in my pet shampoo. Smells kinda like a tropical fruit punch. Have been wanting to try their Blood Orange.

    Other scents I would recommend:

Japanese Pear and Ginseng - Elements - This doesn't smell amazing OOB but boy does it turn out nice in the product. I was surprised.

    Grapefruit and Mangosteen - CS

Calabrian Bergamot and Violet - AH/RE - This is wonderful in lotion

    Lemon Verbena - AH/RE

    hth,

  6. FINALLY! :yay::yay::yay:

After the snow and ice shut down Atlanta for the last several days, I finally got my silicone molds delivered. Been on the darn truck the last two days, they just never made it to my house.

Haven't had a chance to use them yet but I really like these. I got the diamond, small bar (financier), tartlet, and the blossom and sunflower for soaps. They have a shiny finish instead of the matte. They are not as stiff as the Wilton silicone molds I have, but I think these will probably be easier to unmold. Especially my sugar scrub cubes and bath melts I've been making.

Great find, Steve, thanks for the recommendation!

  7. tlc, thanks for the update on what you see. I really like NG and it would be nice to be able to get more items from them.

Judy, I'm with you, waiting for NG to get their recipes going. I did the same thing...

If you wander out to MMS, LotionCrafter, Snowdrift or The Herbarie, they have recipe sections with quite a few B&B recipes. A lot of fun stuff to play with. Most of the soap recipes are for CP/HP, but it will give you some really good ideas to use with M&P, if that is what you are doing. Below are links to the recipe sections I mentioned above. Plus, a couple of CT threads for M&P recipes and information. Knowing you, I'm sure you've already found them!! :cheesy2: But, just to get you jumpstarted if you haven't looked yet.

  8. NaturallyTru, below is a link from a thread on trying to achieve a Hot Pink color. EricofAZ gives a very good discussion on creating various colors using the RGB or CMYK methods. Maybe you'll be able to create your own with colors you already have.

Below that is a link to a color chart I use that has over 500 different colors and their RGB equivalents. Might be a color there that you can use. I realize the chart is geared more toward creating colors on the computer but the same principal still applies to the dye.

    Hope that helps.

  9. If you have a Container Store near you, they have a lot of stuff. Plus, they have the Elfa stuff that can be customized. Might also want to check out Ikea as well, might be something useful there.

And I don't even want to get started on how well the adhesive labels stick to cat fur, LOL.

THAT would have been a hilarious video to watch.... Trying to get adhesive off of a cat...

  10. Hey Steve, do you know how many ounces of wax each cavity holds on the half sphere and the diamond shape. I was looking at those two but couldn't tell how much wax they might hold. I'm looking to actually use them for bath melts. Thanks for the info!!

All of your testers came out very nice, btw. I really like that last one. Wonder what it could be used for....

    eta: Maybe a guest soap?

  11. I saw that this weekend when I wandered out there to see what they had in the way of CDN wicks. Like Lovemylabs said, they are not allowing traffic to the domain name because the yearly fees have not been paid. Hopefully, that will be corrected one the dues are paid. If they are going out of business, the name will eventually revert back to the domain owner, such as Tucows or Go Daddy or whoevery owns it.

  12. SOS has a Dulce De Leche, not sure if it's has the same notes. And, Natures Garden has a Coconut Vanilla that sounds like your second.

The Scentworks also has a FO called Creme d'Amande. Not sure if that would lean more towards tropical instead of bakery, though.

  13. Steve, love your clamshells and tarts. They turned out beautifully, especially the feather palm. I use a blend of PB and 464 with some 4630 to keep it looking smooth and minimize the cracking. I thought the same thing as you, would get a better HT with 4630 but had better luck with a larger percentage of 464 and reducing the 4630. Have had great feedback on my clamshells, so I'm excited.

I do have a few questions, tho, on your feather palm clamshells. First, are you pouring the palm below 150 degrees to not melt the plastic? Or is it okay to pour at the recommended pour temp for the wax? The wax always seems to harden up so quickly for me.

Also, have you tried the feather palm in a wax melter? If so, did you have any issues with removing the wax when you wanted to change it out. Does 10-15 min in the freezer get them to pop out like the PB?

Love the look of palm and you can get such nice colors and a wonderful HT, would like to try it in clams. But, I don't care for having to heat the wax in order to clean out the wax. Don't know about you, but it can be a pain to clean because it cools down so fast.

    TIA - J

  14. ooohhh, #14, Perfumes of a Mystic Forest. Don't remember that one. Well, another trip to the store because that sounds really good.....

On their website they now sell their scents in air fresheners and warmer oils. And, I see that they also have carved candles. Wonder if I could find a store locally that sells those. I hate waiting for shipping :waiting:
