  1. I did some searching on these terms but haven't come up with many threads. For anyone out there that offers an exclusive contract or offers protected territories, I'd love some suggestions.

I am assuming I will offer the exclusive to just this particular street of shops (it's a high traffic shopping district) and require a yearly minimum order amount.

Does anyone have any suggestions or possibly an example of an exclusive or protected territory contract I could use as a starting point?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  2. I was relieved to see this thread. I am new to candles and started with the tureens and I have been very frustrated by them, and seriously thought about giving up on them. I decided to stick with them for one more order because they are such great sellers once you get your combinations right and I have now perfected about a dozen recipes. The smallest tureen is the most troublesome. When LX16 and LX18 don't work, I resort to two smaller wicks ECO 2-3 this has worked for me. The 8 oz tureen usually works fine with the LX 26 wick or LX 28. LX 28 will sometimes mushroom most of the time LX 30 is overkill.

I think the jar being narrow at the top and then widening in the center is the cause of the problem. It fools you by achieving full melt pool easily to begin with, then begins to leave behind a layer of unmelted wax about half way down the jar. I find this is far more prevalent with the smallest jar. People love them though, if you can get the right wick for your f/o and colors you have a sure seller especially the smallest jar. It is great for first time customers as a try me.

I've got the 11oz and 20oz tureens working well. I am still having issues with the 3 oz and the 6 and 8 oz. When you say "smallest" jar I assume you are talking about the 3oz? I thought that size would be great for customers to sample fragrances in ~ dang! Back to the lab on it!! I haven't tried LX's; I'm using HTP.

If you don't mind me asking, do you sell the 3 ouncers individually or do you pack a few together?

  3. Your site looks good and I do like the colors. I do have a problem with your scent list on every page. I think it is a little over kill myself. If a customer is ordering wick dippers or even combo burners why would they need to see a scent list? This is just me though.

Good luck with your site :)

LOL - my husband said the same thing!! I am considering just leaving it on the shop by product page only.

    Thanks!!

  4. Well, after the 3rd day of test burning on my 11oz with HTP104 (2); it is doing great. It started out with a little hangup but has worked itself out of that. (I'm not too excited yet; as last week the same fragrance didn't reach a FMP with the same wicks).

I'm wondering if having a little wax hang up (less than 1/32 on about 1/2" of the jar) is such a bad thing??? My obsessivness tells me yea it is! But, I just wonder if customers pay that much attention to it??

  5. Ahhhhh!! I love these tureens but they are driving me crazy trying to wick them.

I am testing the 3oz, 8oz, and 11oz. I am using EL pure soy wax, htp wicks (all different sizes). The first burn achieves a FMP within 2 hours. The next burns start tunneling.

Has anyone successfully wicked these babies? If so do you have any suggestions for me. I'd love to carry these in my line but I just can't seem to get it right.

  6. Wax type, wick type/size, heating/pouring temp, room temp, specific FO/supplier, etc. - all can affect burn rate and hot throw. I skimmed the other posts but did not see where you identified these. If you suspect that the FO isn't combining well, the temp you are adding the FO and pouring temp may be issues. When a candle is tested at a certain room temp, then later is burned at a much different temperature, this can certainly affect how the candle performs, both in terms of hot throw and in terms of hangup or burning too hot. If you can fill in some of the details, we might be able to suggest more specific remedies to your problem.

I'm sorry Stella - I should have been more clear. I am using the same of everything that I have always used for several years, same wicks, wax, dyes, FO. The only change has been moving everything downstairs.

I poured back upstairs yesterday, so in a few days I'll test the candles and hopefully they will work and it's just the temp issue!

  7. Room temp. when pouring yes, but not when burning a candle..IMO....I have lots of customers that put their candles in their freezer and swear they burn longer (of course I'm speaking of candle temp and not room temp)....I have had great luck with Amish Harvest from Peaks. I pour in a 8 oz. JJ, 8 oz. sq. mason jar and 16 oz. sq. mason jar with a CD14 (I use IGI 6006) and they burn very well.

Sounds like with your wax/FO combo, you may need to wick up or burn your candle in a warmer room. I know at least my customers don't keep their homes at 65 degrees....we're warm blooded folks here in SE Texa and can't take the cooler temps in our houses....IMO

    When I poured J50 or IGI 4636 I used a 51z and in 16 oz. apothecary jars 2 - 60z wicks.

Just thought I'd throw some misc. info at ya.

    HTH

Room temp is when I'm pouring and thought it might be making the candles set up too quickly - not allowing the wax and fo to combine correctly. I am testing back upstairs where it's a little warmer and hope it works! This is the first time I've had any problems with the fo, wick, wax combination - the only change is that I was pouring in a cooler room. I didn't think it would matter - if this is the issue, I have learned my lesson - 60 candles later!*faint*

  8. Hello - I have been rackin' my brain over this! I've moved my "operation" to the basement where it is about 60 to 64 degrees. I have a melter and all my supplies stored there. I used to pour upstairs where we keep it closer to 65 or 67 degrees.

I am having a problem with one of my oils (it's a heavy one - Amish Harvest); the wick won't stay lit and drowns out. It seems a couple other thicker fragrances aren't burning as they used to as well - just slow, not drowning out yet. I've been brainstorming...is it the wicks, the fragrance, the dye, did I pour at the right temp, is the room temp too cold....

For all you Pros out there.....here is my question:

Does the room temperature being this low (60 to 64) pose an issue with the candle performance? I'm wondering if they are setting up too fast - maybe the soy wax molecules are closing up before the fragrance can fully be absorbed?

    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

  9. This really frustrates me! I had another company a couple years ago that just "disappeared" - they disconnected their phone #, took down the website, and never returned emails.

I understand there could be several factors for closing; whether it's personal, a tragedy, or loss of funds. The reason doesn't have to be disclosed obvisously, but it would be nice if they'd post they are closing for good or if they're just on a hiatus!

I buy the Christmas Splendor and Fresh Cut Pine, both which are on my fundraiser lists - and of course I just went to order a huge amount! YIKES! I am in big trouble!:undecided

  10. I always do good with baked bread, hazelnut, vanillas, and spice fragrances too.

I'm trying creme brulee this year - omg it smells wonderful!!

My biggest issue is trying to please everyone - I need to just make my decision and stick with it as Marcus Daniel stated!

Has anyone had luck with selling chocolate fragrances? I may add one just to see!
