robertgibbens
Anyone ever had the problem I am currently having? I am making salt soap. 75 percent coconut soil, 25 percent other oils (shea, avacado, grapeseed, and castor). Then 75% salt by oil weight. 1 oz of scent per lb of oil weight and liquid key west green color. Now most scent/color combos make beautiful green bars made in silicone 5 oz molds. But I am finding with a few scents (pineapple and pina colada) that as they bars cool they turn from a nice green to a nasty brown. I've used a brown bar and it lathers well. Wondering if anyone has had this experience and if there's a solution short of dont use the scents that discolor.
ChrisR
Yep had this happen and now stay away from any FO that may contain vanilla.
chuck_35550
You could try addding some Titanium Dioxide but I look for vanilla fos that are designed to not morph or discolor in cp. There is also a vanilla stabilizer that you can use along with the titanium dioxide that works pretty good. HTHSteve
Moody Glenn
I agree - it most likely is a percentage of vanilla in the fragrance oils that made your bars go brown. I always make a point when purchasing FO's to always check if they contain any percentage of vanilla. If they do - I keep on looking. robertgibbens
So I'm not seeing anything indicating that the bars are not useable. If I can take the color I am assuming their ok to sell/use...
Sharon in KY
They are OK to use if it said "skin safe". Pink Sugar turns almost a chocolate color in lotion or soad. If these are scents you like use a vanilla stabilizer to keep them from turning.
CareBear
The browning is simply a color thing, and no indication anything has gone bad. It's cosmetic. So as long as you used skin safe FOs you are just fine.
Kitn
I embrace the "brown" if it is an FO buyers love..
cmzaha
My Dragon's Blood goes very chocolate brown and it is my best selling soap. I just tell my customers not to use a $20 white wash cloth!!
