ranaecandles
I just started using them and they are really neat. I get the wicks from http://woodcandlewick.com/%C2'> What I found is their wick guide tends to run a little larger than I needed for example their guide says for 4" containers you should use a 3/4" which, but my testing showed that 1/2" works really well. They really do crackle the way they are supposed to. You'll have to do your own testing to figure out what works for you.
JABE
I've considered trying them as well. I have purchased a wood wicked candle from a local store just see how it burns and what it sounds like. My concern was if any of the pieces/ambers of wood - would float up into the air and be a hazard. Made me think of burning brush how it floats. I did witness a few very very small flecks float off into the air while burning. I need to finish all my other testing on my wish list before attempting another new thing. It's sooooooooooo easy to get side tracked.
