JI
I use 444 wax with 6% fo load. I am courting a wholesale account which wants 16 oz tins (holding 12 oz wax). I am planning on purchasing from candlewic since cs no longer carries 16 oz size. The initial order for their test market is 900. For the fall/winter. I am concerned about using tins because of the rust issues, esp. with vanilla etc. I used tins for the holidays once (from cs) and I turned them over quickly (they sold well), so I never saw rust. I typically only use glass. Please let me know your thoughts/experience. What about spray lacquer on the inside of the tin? Mod podge looks annoying, messy etc. and time consuming. I haven't used candlewic tins. I have ordered some samples. Customer is purchasing some testers. I am scared that if they order in the summer for 900, that one day a couple of months down the road, they'll ring me up and tell me that it is a rusty mess. Please advise. Should I just push them to the 8 oz glass candle? The 16 oz tin has better throw because of the nearly 4 inch meltpool. Vs. The 8 oz glass jar is more like 2.5. I intend to make some cinnamon or vanilla early next week and let it sit around for a few weeks too. I'm really stressing about this because I couldn't afford to mess this up so to speak. Thanks, J
Guest OldGlory
I have had one particular wholesale account for 8+ years, and part of their order is 2 different sizes of tins. Never had trouble with rust, even with vanilla. My wax for the tins is 464.When I made 16 oz tins, I bought them from Yankee Containers. That was lots of years ago, but I did not have to buy 900! Goodness, that's such a big committment! What I would be concerned with is not the rust issue, but one day your client could call you and say, "Thanks but we will not be ordering from you any more." 900?The 8 oz tin that I pour for this one wholesale account has an awesome throw. Have you considered 8 oz instead? You can buy those from Aztec in Knoxville - 12 for $8.95. And they are really good quality. And a 8 oz tin size is way more affordable for the consumer than a 16 oz tin size.Good luck with your decision. I LOVE wholesale business! chuck_35550
You need to check out SKS Bottling and Packaging. Pretty good deals on bulk orders of tins. Steve
JI
I checked sks but candlewic had better pricing when factoring in shipping. I will double check though.
chuck_35550
They offer free shipping on anything over $250.00 and be sure to look at the bulk rates. Free shipping is always good for me.

A vanilla tester stained a container, but that's about it. I re-use testers over and over.
moonshine
Hmmmm- I wonder what could be my issue I use the 4 ouncers and brand new containers every scent after a few weeks you see rust around the tops - all my tester tins are pure rust and they never touched water I use 1.5 ounces FO per pound of wax
TallTayl
So strange! I have even washed mine in soap and water. Is that size sealed like the bigger sizes?
moonshine
Yes and the lids are hard to get off I have a few 8 ounce tins I bought of the classies that came from Aztec- I am going to try those this weekend and see if I get the same result - it's weird and the worst ones are pink sugar and suede - I just came across a couple I had put aside and they are bad! afewthingz
I've had that issue with the vanilla scents as well. However, no issues with any other scent, I use 464 btw.

JI
Afewthingz, how bad was the rusting on the vanilla?
afewthingz
HI JI,To me, they were not selling material at all, the soy turned a weird color, and of course the sight of the rust was just unattractive. However, I discovered that, the culprit were my 2oz. & 4oz. gold tins, which I had purchased from craigslist. The rusting happened within a week. sidlesup
I use 8 oz tins from CS for testers/personal use, and re-use them frequently. No rust yet. But I've only been dabbling with candles since January.
