NightLight
I ordered some performa wicks, and started a test burn. Bits of black stuff early in burn came off of wicks into the meltpool. This was not from a mushroom. Liked the burn but can’t have stuff in the candle. Is this common with performa wicks? Disappointed
Laura C
Hi @nightlight. No, that is not common, at least in my experience. I have used Performa wicks from at least 2 different suppliers and generally always have great performance. The suppliers are Atkins & Pearce and Bitter Creek Candle Supplies. They are one of my favorite wicks. At one time I did have dark melt pools with black specs when using ribbon wicks but I believe it was because I was over wicking. kandlekrazy
I don't recall them doing that either. It's been a bit but I would have noted something like that and my notes don't have any info about mushrooms, soot or black bits.
NightLight
Here’s the response I got from Bittercreek! Loved the wick burn but can’t have flaky wick bits like that. Good Morning! Bits of burnt wick dropping into the melt pool is quite typical. The Performa series is a self trimming wick and will break off at any time during the burn, if there is excess wick at any point.
