Grumpy Girl
I just had a canadian friend offer to send me beaver, moose and bear fat to render tallow from for soaping... anybody ever tried these?
singleyellowrose
Haven't personally tried them myself but you would need the SAP for them...Bear Tallow Sap Value: NAOH SAP Value 0.139KOH SAP Value 0.1946Dunno on the other 2ETA: Have you ever rendered tallow? Not to discourage you, but those may REAK when you do them. I don't know as I haven't ever rendered them, just rendered beef tallow and that was enough. I'll buy it first already rendered! Carrie
I've seen quite a bit of discussion about using tallow from deer and other "wild" animals at the dish. You may search there or ask.
RobinInOR
You can probably use .138 or .139 for any of the wild tallows, they should all be close... Beef is higher at .142, probably cuz it eats differently Sounds like fun!
donna4909
I've used deer tallow. Didn't notice much of a difference between it and my regular lard recipe.I did not render it myself though. I just don't think my nose would stand up to that kinda thing. Plus I'm really lazy, so...
