topofmurrayhill
I'm considering the possibility of using an 18 qt. Nesco roaster as a wax melter. If anyone has tried that, how well does it work?
candlesprite7
I used to use a really really old one (I found it at a thrift shop for $3), it was deeper than the ones now made, but it took about 30 minutes to melt the wax in my pour pots...I used to put 3 pots in there and close the lid.I never put the wax in the actual pan, it was too old and worn out for that, but i think if you put a slab or two in it would be an hour or two for it to melt? stacien
Top is it enameled or is it teflon coated? Enamal is not too paraffin wax friendly with clean up.
topofmurrayhill
I'm liking this idea. Methinks I'm gonna try it.Stacie, you can get either non-stick or stainless steel pans. I figure the non-stick might be an easy wipe-up like a Presto but the stainless would be more durable.
mystical_angel1219
Word from the wise.. LMAO!! If your doing the Nesco dance, I would suggest getting it from Amazon so you can get free shipping. Their prices are comparable if not better than QVC.
candlesprite7
I think it's a great idea instead of spending maybe over $1000 for two you can spend less than $300 for 2 roasters and some extra pans....Me being a thrifty girl, I would do it if I needed more volume...Though someday I really want to spend the money for that 10 chamber dipping tank...*sigh*...I'm dreaming...lmao! I'm an Amazon Prime guy and get 2 day shipping for free.It seems really worth trying but I wonder about the temperature control. The Presto thermostat at least tries to control the temperature of the liquid so that you can use it as a deep fryer. The Nesco is made to be an oven so I'm not sure it'll work the same way. There might be a lot of experimentation involved in figuring out how to use the temp control.

MasterBaker2
Here is some info on the roasters. I don't know how much it differs from the Hamilton Beach one that they use but......http://www.wicks-wax-scents.com/make-homemade-candles.html
GingerKay
I have an 80 lb melter for regular use, but I use a roaster for dipping bears. Melts wax just fine. Been using the same one for about two years-it is Hamilton Beach.
lindsaycb
I'd like to know what the secret it to get the wax out of the nesco. There was a time once that I tried them, but ladeling (sp?) the wax out was a serious PITA.
