Lady Di
I got rid of about 3 or 4 cups. We put it in a coffee can. Is there anything else I should know about safely getting rid of lye?Dianne
tlc26
just pour it down your drain. It is sold as a drain opener. I do my shower and kitchen sink every so often.
Carrie
If it is soapable you can send it to me. Otherwise. yeah, flush some down the toilet every week or so. I'd look on the container and see what the manufacturer suggests. It is a drain cleaner.
Darwin
I agree. Flush it, it can only help your drains!

CareBear
If you put it down the sink be sure to have the water running! You want to dilute it a lot to be sure it doesn't boil up and make a (dangerous) mess! If adding to the toilet do only a bit at a time. The plumber across the street says no more than half-cup per flush and he recommends not doing one lye-flush right after the other cause you don't want to over-heat your porceline. I think he's being cautious, but better safe than sorry!.
