Lorrie
Ok, I addmitt it. I never have used this before. I usually just judge a soap recipe by how it feels and such. Well, when I was making soap last night after I got the batch of soap made I realized when I ran the recipe through the lye calculator, I put the wrong oil in the recipe. So I thought that I would use the soap calc to try and figure out what this soap is going to be like once it is cured. So basically I want to know what the heck these numbers mean. Individual/CombinedHardness 70 42Cleansing 61 16Condition 18 53 Bubbly lath. 61 16 creamy lath. 9 27iodine 20 55 INC. 183 142I have no clue when it comes to the numbers what to look for. Thanks
MsDammit
If u look on the soap qualities(tab on top) it explains what they all mean. HTH.:smiley2:
Crafty1_AJ
Ignore the individual numbers. Those are for only one oil -- the one that's currently highlighted (or the last one you entered into soapcalc.) The numbers you want to look at are the combined. As was mentioned in the previous post, there is a place in soapcalc you can click on where they give you a good range of numbers. So you can shoot for those. The higher the number, in general, the greater that quality will be in your finished soap. So a soap that has a fluffly lather of 17 is not going to be as bubbly (big fat initial bubbles) as a soap that has a fluffly lather ranking of say, 29. Make sense? The numbers look good on the recipe you entered, except the fluffy (bubbly) lather number is a little low for most people's taste. You could improve it by bumping up the coconut or pko, for example.HTH! Happy soaping!

CareBear
I was just trying to understand, not criticizing or even offering advice. I'm the novice, I get that.
Lorrie
if you used the wrong oil did you change the recipe to make sure you have the right amount of lye?Yup, right amount of lye. Wrong oil... When I resized the recipe and plugged in the oils the first time. I put the wrong oil in. So when I calculated the lye it was right. I just entered the wrong oil.But that was a good question.
Lorrie
I just had to post that I tested the soap that I put the wrong oil in. I still needs to cure for a little while but I actually think that the bar turned out nicely:)
