Lightning Bug
For all you 50/50 users out there...are the blends from the different candle suppliers different? If I am tracking right, only IGI, CalWax and maybe a few others makes this blend. Are some better than others or should I just go with closest for the shipping costs? I am frustrated by the pure soy and have just tried GL's 70/30 but did experience some sooting...may need to just keep working with my wicking or try the GB 464 or try a 50/50. How does it wick and does it soot also? After two years and I fianlly want to get this down and decided. Any info would be apprecitated. TIA. realmarcha
I have tried the SS parasoy which is a 50/50 blend. I got a great scent throw, vibrant colors, and little to no soot. You need to wick it just right to achieve little to no soot. I used zinc wicks from Fil-tec, and Bittercreek. HTHwww.greatcandle.com
TxGirl
Most of the candles I make are 50/50 and I really like it. I use mostly LX series wicks and have not experienced much (hardly any at all) sooting. I love the blend. You get the best of both worlds. The slower, cleaner burning from the soy, and the scent throw and smoothness of the paraffin. Plus it's a bit easier to wick, in my opinion, and a little more forigiving if you wick a little too small they still burn pretty even. But the straight soy, the wicking is a you know what! My Ecosoya Advance sets up pretty nice and smooth, but I've had the hardest time wicking it.
Sharon in PA
We use a 50/50 from Candles and Supplies. It is manufactured right here in PA. I love this wax! It makes a gorgeous one-pour jar, easy to color, creamy, strong throw at 9-10% load. We wick w/ CD's. VERY little sooting!HTH!
