Lorrie
I would like to make some soap for myself. Can I sub palm kernel for coconut oil.And before anyone mentions it I know to run it throught the lye calculator. LOL I just want to make sure that I could still have a nice soap. Bunny
You sure can! Babassu, coconut, and palm kernel are all cleansing oils, and can be interchanged or mixed for good "bubbleage". Can't wait to hear about the soap! WOOHOO!!!
Crafty1_AJ
Yep, pko should work great in place of coconut for ya. Let us know how it goes!
Lorrie
Thank you. I just got some Oatmeal milk and honey Fo and I am dying to throw it in some soap. And of course I am out of CO and I thought I read that you could sub it but wasn't sure. LOLI'll let you know how the soap turns out when I get it made... Scented
Hey I have all of those. So really I could eliminate a couple from my recipe since they sorta do the same things? Except I love my bubbles.
Crafty1_AJ
Well you could play around with various recipes on soapcalc and see how the numbers come out. If you really like lots of bubbles, try combos of pko, coconut, castor, and maybe babassu. Then you could see how the numbers look with only pko, only coconut, etc. I actually do use one recipe that has both coconut AND pko. I wouldn't go more than 5-10% on castor though.ETA: Even a recipe that has fairly low lather numbers will improve with a lengthy cure time. Long cures just rock; the soap becomes so much better! Rock hard, killer lather, etc. I have a 2 1/2 year old bar of soap that was low-average on lather numbers. Right now the lather will DROWN you. Absolutely copious, choke-you, killer suds. Outstanding!
Carrie
No wonder I get so many bubbles, I use CO, PKO, Babassu and castor in my recipe.
