quietgirl2004
Well, I just soaped Drakkar for the first time. The fo was from WSP. When I looked at it 24 hours or so later I had lots of tiny maroon colored speckles through the whole soap. What the heck is this? It looks like I made Oatmeal, Milk and Honey or something! I would take a pic but dont have a camera right now. Something to do with Vanilla in the fo or something? Im totally baffled. Never had this happen before. mountainmadness
It sounds to me, just by your description, that the soap may have riced.... and may also be discoloring. Was it smooth when your poured it?
Jcandleattic
either it riced or it may already be getting some DOS. Even though there really is no difinitive answer as to what causes DOS, that's what it sounds like to me.
Scented
Well having just gone through two batches of this and going to make a third, is it possible that the dots are something else? I mean, on my batches they were bottom heavy with lye, suspecting that I was a victim of a false trace. Could this just be a form of false tracing? I'd have to wonder if the FO didn't discolor. Now the one I used went brown, light tan.
Carrie
I soaped AWE Drakkar and they came out perfect. Sorry that happened to you, it may just be the FO. The FO from AWE never discolored a bit and is a dead on dupe in my soap.
Jcandleattic
Another possibility that I didn't think of is did you soap with milk? If so, then it may be scorched milk. Or if your lye wasn't 100% sodium hydroxide it could be a bad reaction to something in the lye? Who knows...Shoot, without seeing a pic of it, it's really hard to say. quietgirl2004
Yes it was smooth when I poured. I didnt use milk. False trace maybe? Uggh. Man this stinks.:undecided
quietgirl2004
So if it was a false trace, do you think those are fo speckles? or what?
mountainmadness
If it was a false trace than the FO would not be fully incorporated and may be causing the spots.... You should post a pic if you can... I have experienced something similar but mine was because the soap riced and with a combination of FO that discolored it looked like you described. quietgirl2004
Well the soap did turn tan, but never riced
mountainmadness
It must of been a false trace... The on going soap-making mysteries.... They become less frequent with time but never end.
quietgirl2004
So does this mean its no good? I know it did heat up.
mountainmadness
I wouldn't sell it but if it is not a lye issue it would be fine for yourself... or you can rebatch.
