I have been reading and reading and just a bit overwhelmed. I wanna try a good recipe and get myself organized. So if anyone is so inclined to help i would appriciate it. CareBear
Look in the recipes section. My favorite there is Quiet Girl's recipe, but Darwin's is GREAT as is Eugenia's and these are simpler.Eugenia's (olive oil with a touch of castor) will move slowly so you have time to think, but castile's take quite a bit of time to cure. Darwin's is well behaved as well...Make up your oils (melt the butters, add the liquid oils) and your lye solution ahead of time if possible - you want both to be just a little warm (100-110 max) if you are doing CP (or room temp is good too). But be very careful with your lye solution - you don't want to leave it where anyone can get to it and get hurt.

ladysj
I can vouch for AJ's and Quiet Girls recipes they are both great. I need to find Eugenia's recipe now lol Anyone know right off hand what E's recipe is?
Crafty1_AJ
She posted it in my recipe thread. I think I called it "Simple Beginner Soap Recipe" or something very similar. Edited to add: I believe the recipe she posted was 90% oo and 10% castor.
arkangel
Here's my 'basic' soap recipe I usually give to beginners. The measurements are easy and most ingredients can be found at the grocery store. You can eventually tweak your own recipe to emphasize various qualities you're looking for, but this is a good start. Basic Soap Olive Oil - 16 oz. Coconut Oil - 16 oz. Crisco - 16 oz. Water - 16 oz. Lye - 6.8 oz. Fragrance or Essential Oil - 1.5 - 2 oz. Melt Olive, Coconut & Crisco over low heat. Using safety precautions, add lye slowly to water & stir until dissolved Place thermometers in both lye and oil solutions. When both solutions cool down to 90 degrees, mix lye in with oils. Stir until light trace (a stickblender is your friend). Add fragrance and mix well. Pour into lined mold. Cover & insulate. Unmold & cut after 24 hours. Let cure 4 weeks.
