islandchandler
Another newbie question. I was using stickums to anchor my wicks and found that hot glue seems to work better. Is the purpose of sticking down the wick just to hold it centered while the wax cools or does the wax pool as it gets close to the bottom cause movement of the wick? If the hot glue melted would the wick slide?
tangerine
The purpose of the wick sticker is to hold down the wick for the life of the candle. It shouldn't shift even as you get close to the bottom while burning. I use wick stickers, have never used hot glue so no answer for you as to the hot glue question. islandchandler
Thanks Tangerine. I wondered, as I have read that some just use wax to anchor the wick - which didn't seem to make sense.
KristineG
I use hot glue. No problems yet with shifty wicks.
islandchandler
The glue sticks I have are "all Purpose" temp glue - low med hi -- do you think this is okay. Seem to be holding well. Or should I be using some special high temp glue?
KristineG
I use the all purpose. I've never had a problem. How do I know? When I put my warning label on the bottom of my jars, I can see that it didn't shift. HTH
islandchandler
Thanks so much everyone. This board is SO helpful to us beginners!
Violetsexoticcandles
I tried using super glue and it didn't adhere. Tried using the tabs you can buy at WalMart and the like- but once the candle got too hot, the wick floated... I stand by the wick stick-ems. The ones with tabs are great, too... They do not try to move or float! Just my personal experience after making hundreds of container candles.

dabbledoya
I use the stickers also, and haven't had one come unstuck yet. I started out with glue dots, and you never knew wether or not they were going to stick--hated them!
islandchandler
I tried the glue dots and found that some of them came loose and floated. So far the hot glue seems to be holding really well.
