Kymber
Ok this is the first time this has happened to me....have made this recipe 100 times. I made a batch yesterday....Peaks Apple Blossom. Poured it into 3 - 3# log molds and tossed it in the oven to spend the night. Took it out this morning and it looked like it had some "sweat" on it. I thought...wow that is weird so touched my finger to it and touched my tongue with my finger...ZAP! CRAP...lye pockets! Well I was going to toss it in the garbage and decided to cut the logs to take a look at the inside. Nothing...no lye pockets...no air holes...nothing. The inside looks great...the outside has this little bit of lye sweat on it?? Do I toss it? What caused this? I'm baffled...... Oh yea and it was definately thick when I poured it.....mushy mashed potato consistancy.
Jcandleattic
I would give it a day or two to see if it absorbs back in. It *could* be the FO. Have you soaped this FO before? Sometimes FO can mimmick the zap of lye and give a tingle. If after a few days it doesn't absorb back in, and is still giving you a zap, I would rebatch it. Kymber
Yea I have used it one other time.....and it was fine. It was a MUCH smaller batch...but fine. And of course this was a special order....24 bars. AND I used all the FO I had left...so had to quick order from Peaks this morning to get some on the way .... so I can remake this if I have to.....LOL
heirloomoriginals
Mine usually does that when it is a bit more humid and it does absorb back in. The worst batch was when I cut into some beautiful Green Tea and Rose soap and lye water came gushing out.Steph
CareBear
Happens to me on occasion. Just blot it off and give the soap a couple of days before cutting. If you cut and see no lye pockets then don't worry. If you wish, you can rinse the bars, but I've never found that necessary.
MsDammit
I have yet to have a batch that doesn't sweat, but I have never touched it and did the zap test, I just wait a few days and they always go dry up-still leave their markings on the soap though.:undecided
Ann M
I had this happen on my last batch. I was shocked. This had never happened before. It sweat for a few days and then all was fine. I was freaking out too. I really thought I would have to toss it. Just give a few days or up to a week and see what happens.Ann M
Scented
I've had it happen a couple of times too and I just waited to see if it absorbed back into the soap. I was thinking uh oh I'm going to have to pitch (since I couldn't rebatch without driving someone else and myself crazy trying to learn.)
