countrycandles
I am about to experiment with reed diffusers. How full do you fill the bottles?
David Fields
I assume you mean the bottle with the reeds? If so, we advise our customers to fill them only half full at first. If not, there is a danger of overflow when the reeds are inserted. The bottle can be added to at any time afterwards. HTH
Brenda (OH)
I fill my bottles just about to the top. I am guessing here but I think about 1/4" from the neck or curve of the bottle. I haven't had any overflow. BTW - 8 reeds come in my kits. HTH.
debscent
I have 5 ounce vases that I use and I only use 2 ounces of fragrance oil. The way my vases are designed if they tip over, the FO won't spill out (which is a huge selling point). Does your FO mixture evaporate over time? Brenda (OH)
I made up my first testers 13 months ago and they are 1/2 gone but still smelling strong. If I remember - I flip my reeds once or twice a week. I don't know if I would say the diffuser oil "evaporates" but is absorbed into the reeds. When the exposed reeds begin to dry out or not be as strong, flipping them aides in the absorption. Does that make "scents" ?
debscent
I understand. I asked the question in the event that an alcohol based "mixture" was used and that would explain the need to fill the bottle. Wow 13 months--that's a long time...did you need to replace your reeds because they became too saturated?

They have been flipped alot of times and are as sturdy as when I first put them in the base.

Does that make "scents" ?Did you make your own base or did you buy a pre mixed base? I ask b/c I purchased the Reed Diff base from a company and I make a 50/50 mixture, then I made a 60/40 minture NO THROW
sockmonkey
Brenda, do you mind saying where you got your reeds? There has been discussion in the past about some suppliers not selling the "good" stuff, and the reeds didn't absorb the oils.
debscent
Which suppliers are not selling "the good stuff? I have ordered mine from 3 different places and the best price so far was ICS, and the reeds have performed great.
dirtybirdsoaps
I also use ICS and have had no problems with mine either. The reeds seem to absorb perfectly!
grama
I got mine from WSP and no problem with reeds.
Brenda (OH)
I use the reed diffuser oil from Southern Scentsations and use a 50/50 ratio. The reeds are part of the empty kits that I purchase from them as well. www.greatcandle.com
