SoapInTheCity
Thankyou very much for that recipe. Is there anything I can substitute for Palm Kernel Oil? That oil is not easy to come by here. Thanks!!

thecandlespastore
How about castor or babassu so you get the bubbly without the dryness...
SoapInTheCity
Oh, what is the 5% BUTTER? Meaning shea or cocoa???
Meridith
If it was me, for that 5%, I would use either avocado oil, sunflower, safflower, canola, hemp or even shea, etc. rather than another hard butter and run it through the calc. SoapInTheCity
OK so I came up with a recipe, with all your help. The conditioning is 57 (45-80 is satisfactory for soap), bubbly lather 29 (14-33 higher Bubbly numbers will tend to produce a foamy, fluffy lather rather than a creamy lather), creamy lather 31(16-35 is satisfactory for a creamy lather) Here is what I am thinking. The higher the number for a creamy lather, the less bubbles or foam. My # is very high on the scale. Any suggestions to lower the creaminess to the soap? cindym
Up the coconut, pko, just be careful of dryness. Also what do you superfat at. Try 4 percent if you are using 5.

topofmurrayhill
Just wondering if there is another oil you can sub for the Babassu?Coconut oil is the most similar thing to babassu. I think you just have to increase it to 20% if you want to make something as close as possible.
Tall Blonde
I made a really nice bubbly recipe with 30% coconut, 10% fco and 10% castor oil. It makes lots of bubbles and feels nice on the skin.

CareBear
Over on another forum we've been discussing a 100% coconut oil soap superfatted at 20%. I finally made some and KAZOW!!!! Bubbles out the wazoo and NOT drying. And white - very white - which may be appropriate for a wedding (maybe) LOL!Give it a go!(I soaped with a 35% lye solution at RT and with melted and cooled oil with no difficulty)
doris
I have some coconut oil soap superfatted to 15% and it is bubbly, pure white, and hard as a rock. It would probably mold very well, and there are beautiful molds available which would work well for weddings.I've also heard that sugar added to the lye water will increase lather, I think 1 tsp ppo. I haven't tried it, but plan to, as I also like bubbly soap.

Is it not drying because of the 20% superfatting?I've done about 3 batches of 100% CO with the really high superfat, and they are not drying at all. They feel awesome.
