AkainePSP
I got mine in the mail yesterday!!! I love it, however I was wondering for those of you who have one how do you clean it? Is it ok just to put it in soap and water? Is there a particular type of spnge or wash cloth I should use to clean the blade?ThanksKelly
jbren
I just use very hot water and a soft brush if necessary and make sure it is DRIED THOROUGHLY after every use. I just replaced my blade after 3+years.

CareBear
I don't clean mine. I do scrape the wood with a credit card if necessary, and pick out any soap bits that catch my attention. But I do not wash it.
CBE
I just wipe mine down carefully with a warm wet washcloth, keeping sure I don't cut myself with the blade. (I tend to cut myself all the time with it... lol... almost sliced off my pinkie finger one time...:embarasse lol)
Angel91805
(I tend to cut myself all the time with it... lol... almost sliced off my pinkie finger one time...:embarasse lol)Yes...do be very careful with it! My pinkie is just now healing enough where I can type! ROFL. It's a sharp sucker....I almost needed stitches. :embarasse BTW...I wipe mine down w/ a warm cloth and then let it dry thoroughly.Donna
DeJae
I don't use any water on mine at all. But I have sliced off a few nail tips for sure.I am not happy with it for all my soaps. I have a few soaps that don't get real real hard and they don't plane so well. I have to use the veggie peeler for them. But I really do like it for when I want my soaps to have flat smooth tops, it planes them goodFor replacement blades, where do you get them? CareBear
KB sells them: http://www.kangarooblue.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=389&zenid=6163b3c216ee90c94069486c6e24f32e
topofmurrayhill
I have a similar type and have avoided wetting the wood, for fear it could warp or lose its smoothness. Soap bits on the brade can be carefully pried off. I rub the wooden part with a sturdy paper towel and don't feel there's significant residue left on it. I know I needed stitches, but I just kept it bandaged up. Hurt like a MOFO. I couldn't hardly even type either. LOL When I would type, the wound would just open back up. Took a good two weeks to finally heal. So yes... everyone be extremely careful with these things! LOL

Because of where I live, we use casino player cards ( the are the same material as cc)ETA: Just noticed, thanks for letting me know about the blades at KB carebear. jbren
For replacement blades, where do you get them?I got mine at Home Depot. In fact, they came in a set...I got a Glass & Tile Scraper with 5 blades (this is the one that fits the planer) and a small glass scraper with 5 single edge blades...$5.97 for everything. So along with my replacement blade for my planer, I got 2 new 'tools'.

I can't believe how nice it made my soaps look even the ugly ones! Thanks everyone for your help.Kelly
heirloomoriginals
This has been on my list almost since I started soaping, but haven't had the money to buy one yet.Steph

swamp_deb
I love my planer/beveler from KB and wouldn't think of buying a copy when the original works so well. It would be my luck that the angle on the planer would be all wonky on the copy and I would wreck my soaps. KB planer/bevelers are worth every penny in my opinion.
