luvtobowl
Ok, here's what I have in my latest 4 lb. batch of soap:avacaco oilcastor oilhemp oilmango butterolive oilrice bran oilshea butterlardNow, it's a nice soap, but I am looking for a nice white bar. This is off white, cream colored. I know you can add TD, but is there a way to get a really white bar without it? Thanks for any input :smiley2:
Carriegsxr6
the only way to achieve a white bar is by using oils that are almost clear in color. If you are using green or dark yellow oils, it will make the soap off white. If you must use darker oils, keep the usage to 15-20% or less of your entire recipe. luvtobowl
Thanks for the advice. I think the olive oil would have been the only dark colored oil I used. I will try something else in it's place. Thanks :smiley2:
Sharon in KY
Try making a Coconut oil soap with extra coconut oil as the super fat. It will be white and sudsy, I love it... Lard makes a nice white bar. I would think the avacaco oil, hemp oil & Olive oil would make it a darker color. JMO
Tea
You would need to make sure that you were using an extra light olive oil, and not a virgin olive oil, that would be fine for a white soap. Also tallow makes for a lovely white soap base. But I agree with the others, you must use very light coloured oils to get a white soap.Just my experience.Tracey
luvtobowl
The olive oil is most definetly part of the problem then. It is extra virgin olive oil. One of the first batches I made was really white but in the middle of all these recipes I have printed out, I don't remember which one it was:o I'm thinking it was mostly lard, coconut oil and some castor oil. Thanks again for the help :smiley2:
Meridith
Unrefined hemp oil will also cause your color to not be as white.
