Crafty1 Posted November 1, 2005 Share Posted November 1, 2005 good question. i am going to take a stab at it from my experience. my body butters are made with no whater, just the butter, oils, starch, and fo. it is thick and more suited for a jar. to me it serves the same purpose as lotion (moisturize), but just a more trendy, fancier name. my lotions are thick as well, thick to the point that it requires a pump instead of disc top. the only difference in the two to me is that the lotion has water, preservative, a lot more ingredients and takes more time to make. I always think of lotions as have 66-70% water or more, butters having much much less if any water. There's products in the middle that you can call lotion, souffle, butter, mousse.... whatever... Michi Posted November 2, 2005 Share Posted November 2, 2005 When I think of the two, I think of butters or even heavy creams to be concentrated, meaning a little goes a long way, and would be used for deep moisturizing, for drier areas of the body, where as a lotion is good for everyday all over body use.
