Lotion versus Body Butter

good question. i am going to take a stab at it from my experience. my body butters are made with no whater, just the butter, oils, starch, and fo. it is thick and more suited for a jar. to me it serves the same purpose as lotion (moisturize), but just a more trendy, fancier name. my lotions are thick as well, thick to the point that it requires a pump instead of disc top. the only difference in the two to me is that the lotion has water, preservative, a lot more ingredients and takes more time to make. JMHO

When I think of the two, I think of butters or even heavy creams to be concentrated, meaning a little goes a long way, and would be used for deep moisturizing, for drier areas of the body, where as a lotion is good for everyday all over body use. ;)

That's what I would say to consumers. :)
