TeriM
anyone here use one to melt wax? My son bought me one a couple years ago - haven't had a chance to use it yet - we figured it'll hold about 45lbs of wax.Just wondering if anyone uses one....thanks ! gerrie
Yes, especially this time of year. Presto pots just aren't big enough when you need to pour a lot in a short time. Just to let you know, the first time I heated mine up it smoked up the entire basement. Had to get a big fan going to blow it upstairs and outside. Not sure what was on that roaster that needed to be burned off, but I was surprised, it was brand new.

gerrie
Oh maybe not. Mine is the kind that comes out ALL over the place this time of year. It's a roaster, not a turkey fryer. The turkey fryer I've seen stand on legs and is narrow and tall, a roaster that we use to melt wax sits on the counter and is about 20" long. Here is a picture. I heard those turkn Surf fryers work well, there was some talk about them a few years ago, not heard much about them lately, maybe cause of the price, since you can pick up one of these roasters at walmart for about 20 bucks. CandleScents
Quote from another thread:That turkey fryer concept intrigued me when I first saw it and I know people use those. For that amount of wax, I just have reservations about how it works. In a regular melter the wax is heated from all sides. In this jobbie you have very concentrated heat from the elements on the bottom. I feel that could cause degradation of the wax and other ingredients as they go past the heating elements. TeriM
that's exactly the one I have.... my son got it at Target (he works there) a couple years ago on clearence for about $20.
JudyN
Did you put a spigot on it? I use a presto pot and my husband put a spigot on it to get the wax out, it is fabulous. It only holds 6 lbs of wax.
smalltownscents
The bigger size would be great w/ the turkey roaster. How long does it take to melt your wax in it? I think I heard it is a lot slower melting the wax than the presto.
Catarina
When you use those, do you mix your scent and color in them or transfer to a pour pot?
wvcandleguy
I have a roaster, like the one pictured above, and it takes FOREVER to melt large amounts of wax..... so if you plan on using it, better start about 3 hours sooner than planned.... I am lookin for an alternative right now for larger quantities
slow-burn
for those that have the turk'n surf---Does the element just sit in the inside then, so it would be submerged in wax?How many pounds does it hold?Does it melt like the presto?I know, tons of questions, LOL! Breanna
I have presto pots with the spigots my DH put on for me. It holds 7LBs of wax and now I have 3 pots. I use the turkey roaster to put water in to heat up for my Dipping Vat when I do tapers and thats all I use it for.JMO
