soycrazy
What do you guys do when you make a blend and it's so nasty you don't want to use it lol. Lately some of these blends I've been making are so gross. I would hate to throw them out since eo's are pretty pricey.
sockmonkey
What are you using? You might be able to remedy the situation by adding an EO with a more potent scent, such as cinnamon or mint to mask the others.
soycrazy
The one I used recently was from Catherine Failor's book. The blend is called sea breezy I wanted to use it in salt bars, but it sure isn't sea breezy at all lol. I tried putting cornmint in it, but it didn't help. It says 2 parts lemongrass, 2 parts eucalyptus & 1 part rosemary.
sockmonkey
Bleckkhhh! That sounds like something that would burn your nose--maybe good for sinus congestion. I'm no fan of rosemary, and eucalyptus is so strong it seems like it might be hard to overpower that combo! You're right, it doesn't sound too sea breezy. Maybe if you called it Arctic Wind or something like that it wouldn't seem as harsh to people.I would just divide it up into smaller batches and start experimenting by adding different EO's to each batch. You know people add everything to lavender, so you might give that a shot. I'm not too fond of lavender either, but it's an industry standard--people seem to expect it.Some other things that might be worth trying:Spearmint (could make it even more noxious)BenzoinOrangeCinnamonI'm sure there are some experts that can offer better suggestions.PS--have you checked out the EO co-op if you need any supplies? soycrazy
The next one I was going to try is orange so I will give that a go. My top shelf of the frig is crammed with eo's and I have a bunch more on order and I'm in the eo co-op so if I can't get this to work with something I have I'm bound to have something to work lol. Thank you so much for your help
Jeana
One thing I do when I want to come up with a new eo blend is make a tiny sample up in a small glass measuring cup. Some times I let them sit a few days to see how they blend together, then decide if I still want to soap it. You can still make some stinkers but it at least this helps some to cut down on waste. One that I made recently I hate is Grapefruit/clove. I did a tiny soap batch with it cuz it smelled good in the sample cup but I didn't like it in soap.Another stinky one I did in a candle was Basil/Spearmint - smelled like dill pickles Not what I was going for at all.But a really good one I made recently is Orange/Cedar/Clove/Palmarosa.You can make sooo many scents with orange. Scented
Well won't these blossom more in something other than under your nose? Maybe add some lemon to your mix or cedarwood or clove or vetiver? Course that may make your mix more herbal that sea breezy. I'd say just add water, but that wouldn't work. Course those I listed are more inclined to heighten your mixture. Maybe Marjoram would freshen it a bit for you? Dunno. And I'll add ... try patchouli lol. It seems to mellow out everything. (J/K! though it would probably be kinda nice for someone who likes patch.)
soycrazy
The top note is eucalyptus and it's quite strong so maybe I put too much in, it's like a knock you on the floor type scent that you wouldn't want to put in soap lol. Patch is a great idea too which I also love
