Llyrellin
Hello;I am in a high school Engineering Design and Development class and am working on a project to develop a prototype that improves on existing solutions of presto pots used for candle making - spigots, temperature gauges, etc. I thought I had found the perfect problem with this, as I love making candles and I know what a hassle it is when the presto spigot/ball valve clogs. However, I have noticed that spigots made of brass don't really clog, so I'm having to reevaluate the problem. I was hoping if any of you, who have presto pots with spigots, have time if you could answer a few, or all, of these questions and post, email, or IM me the replies. Thank you so much for your time.1.Does your spigot clog? If so, 1. How often does it clog? 2. How long does it take you to 'fix' or remove the clog? 3. What materials is it made of? 4. What type of spigot is it - simple faucet, ball valve, etc.? 5. On a scale of 1 to 5, how much of a hassle does the clogging cause?2. If you have a brass spigot, 1. Dos your spigot clog? 2. If so, how often, on average, does it clog? 3. Have you ever burned your hand while touching the spigot?3. What temperatures does your spigot reach? 1. Have you ever burned yourself touching the spigot? 2. If so, what material is it made of?4. How long does it take from the time you turn off the pot until the spigot cools off?5. Have you had problems with oxidization around your spigot?6. If so, what material is it made of?Again, thank you for your time.

Have you ever burned yourself touching the spigot? No again4. How long does it take from the time you turn off the pot until the spigot cools off? I have no idea5. trisha
Hello Llyrellin,When you get all of your data would you mind letting me know your conclusions? I am very interested in this as well. I have a presto pot and will eventually install a spigot. Good work:yay:
Breanna
2. If you have a brass spigot,yes1. Dos your spigot clog?NO2. If so, how often, on average, does it clog?never clogged3. Have you ever burned your hand while touching the spigot?NOPE3. What temperatures does your spigot reach?Well if it is attached to the pot I would guess as hot as I get my pot 190F1. Have you ever burned yourself touching the spigot?Nope2. If so, what material is it made of?4. How long does it take from the time you turn off the pot until the spigot cools off? When my pot cools so does the spigot,,I can usually touch the pot after about 5 to 10 minutes5. Have you had problems with oxidization around your spigot?NOPE6. If so, what material is it made of? geekrunner
1.Does your spigot clog? It did onceIf so,1. How often does it clog? Just once, when I reheated a solid mass of wax to a low temp, the wax in the spigot did not get hot enough to melt, and it clogged. But once I turned heat up, it then me,ted and unclogged.2. How long does it take you to 'fix' or remove the clog? Long enough to heat the pot to melt it3. What materials is it made of? Brass4. What type of spigot is it - simple faucet, ball valve, etc.? Ball valve5. On a scale of 1 to 5, how much of a hassle does the clogging cause? 13. Have you ever burned your hand while touching the spigot? no3. What temperatures does your spigot reach? Same as pot, ab 1854. How long does it take from the time you turn off the pot until the spigot cools off? Don't know5. Have you had problems with oxidization around your spigot? noHTH! RobinInOR
1.Does your spigot clog? rarely, but it's happened a few times. Mostly slow running, not a complete clog. If so, 1. How often does it clog? Once every 6 months or so. 2. How long does it take you to 'fix' or remove the clog? 5 minutes. 3. What materials is it made of? brass. 4. What type of spigot is it - simple faucet, ball valve, etc.? faucet 5. On a scale of 1 to 5, how much of a hassle does the clogging cause? 2 little. 3. Have you ever burned your hand while touching the spigot? nope3. What temperatures does your spigot reach? dunno 1. Have you ever burned yourself touching the spigot? nope5. Have you had problems with oxidization around your spigot? It's green around the threads on the outside, but it hasn't harmed anything, the looks of it doesn't bother me.6. If so, what material is it made of? brassMostly the problem I have with the faucet is the washer inside. If I forgot to take it out, it would eventually melt after a few months and block the spigot. Now we just use a standard garden faucet, remove the washer, and just use pipe threading tape, it's a pretty simple setup.

Only when I do not heat it long/hot enoughIf so,1. How often does it clog? Never anymore I. Melt at 200+ and let it "cook" for at least 30 mins befor trying to pour2. How long does it take you to 'fix' or remove the clog? 10 Mins?3. What materials is it made of? brass4. What type of spigot is it - simple faucet, ball valve, etc.? Ball valve5. On a scale of 1 to 5, how much of a hassle does the clogging cause? 12. If you have a brass spigot, yes3. Have you ever burned your hand while touching the spigot? No3. What temperatures does your spigot reach? 240ish1. Have you ever burned yourself touching the spigot? No2. If so, what material is it made of?4. How long does it take from the time you turn off the pot until the spigot cools off? Never timed... 30 mins?5. Have you had problems with oxidization around your spigot? No6.
