TexasBrat
Have you ever had a scent disappear after the cook but it came back after curing???
3bees~1flower
when are you adding your FO?
chrisinpa
I add my fragrance after it is done cooking, I check the fo's flashpoint and try my best to wait till it gets down to the correct temp.I have had a few scents get stronger after a week or so. kyme1911
I add the FO when it is ready to be put in the mold. I don't think I have had any disappear then come back.
TexasBrat
I add it after the cook and before putting in the mold. I added a flavor last night and I think it burned off.
leisa2003
I add mine at before I put it i the mold, never had a FO disappear. I have heard of this though from a well known soaper with year experience and the fragrance did come to life days after curing.
3bees~1flower
i have never had a FO burn completely off either, after years of exclusive crock pot soaping.
Kitn
I add the FO to the oils before the cook, never had it burn off, yet!! With my luck it will happen next batch:rolleyes2
Starr
I've had scents that couldn't hold up to process soap at all. CandleChem's strawberry was the first time I encountered this disaster. I've had scents get both stronger and weaker with curing but never a disappearing, reappearing scent. What scent was it if you don't mind my asking? TexasBrat
This was acutallyl a flavor oil and the previous batch of flavor oils I used worked just fine.
soycrazy
Never thought of using flavor oils in cphp
Carrie
The only flavor oil I know of that is designed for both flavor and fragrance is a rose something scent from Oregon Trails. It may work well in tooth soap. I'll have to think about that one.
TexasBrat
Yup, flavor oils work just fine. I know another soaper who sells hers in her business and they do great. I made coconut/chocolate last weekend. Mmmmm
soycrazy
Cool, I'll have to try that out
TexasBrat
Looks like the smell is back and it worked out fine. I used coffee and it is great now. mmm I also used almond meal for exfoliation. I get my flavor oils from Texas Natural Supply in case anyone wanted to know.http://www.texasnaturalsupply.com/category.aspx?categoryID=
soycrazy
Do you use the water or oil based ones?
TexasBrat
I use oil but accidentally mixed the water based chocolate with the oil based coconut and it turned out fine but I would recommend oil only.
pj'snana
I love cphp....I usually take some of the cooked soap out...maybe a cup or two..stir it to cool it a bit, add the fragrance oil, then mix that soap back into the main pot of soap...fragrance oil never burns off. mdmd
That happened to me with a Strawberry-type scent before. It was almost nonexistent in HP soap the day after I made it, but then reappeared. It had the same effect when I made lotions with it -- could smell it when I first made the lotion, then nothing for several days, then all of a sudden it would come back.
