Suzanne
Here's a link that might help you understand http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3179Also, in the soapmaking forum (towards the top) there is a lot of helpful information you might want to check out. cindym
If you use this soap calc you put www.soapcalc.com you put in the ozs and it calculates everything else for you. Start at the top, click ozs and then put in how many ozs for the batch and then start clicking your oils and put the pecent of each. The recipe and lye amount will be on the bottom half of the page. Carrie
Try the calculator at MMS the Sage. http://thesage.com/calcs/lyecalc2.phpIt goes by weight not by percentages. I use it when I have ounces and soapcalc when I have percentages.HTH
CranberryGirl
ahhhhh...I thought basic recipes were already caculated for you?????so it is to see how my lye to add?so if i wanted to add two oz of olive oil i would type that in????sorry I have nooo clue..I am a candle maker looking into a whole new world!I love handmade soaps I always have!!! But i am not sure I understand how to start...M&P was easy...My soaps turned out good! But I want to make some from scratch...I don't want to use lard.. just all veggie oils.....I think I am missing a big part of understanding...In candlemaking we follow recipe every thing is right to the oz.. by weight....ahhhhhThanks for the help! I truly dooo Appriciate it!Tara
Carrie
In candlemaking we follow recipe every thing is right to the oz.. by weight....It is the same in soaping, except we follow the recipe to the 10th of an ounce. It is way more precise. If you find a recipe you like, enter it into the lye calc at the sage then add those 2oz of another oil. It will change the amount of lye and water needed.
